As if Chicago P.D.'s Sgt. Hank Voight(Jason Beghe) didn't have enough problems getting his Intelligence Unit back together, he's now going to be down one man when Patrick John Flueger takes a leave of absence from the NBC police drama.
The original cast member, who plays Adam Ruzek, is exiting for "personal" reasons, Deadline was first to report. And like Taylor Kinney did when he took a 10-month absence from Chicago Fire, Flueger reportedly will return to his unit at some point. What is unknown at this time is how many episodes Flueger will miss. There is also no report on when his last episode will air.

Chicago Med's Marlyne Barrett is another member of the Wolfverse to be taking an absence. Her character, Maggie, has been written out of Season 11 on the NBC medical drama, but with the door being left open for her return.
It's a rough time for Ruzek to be absent from Chicago P.D. He and Detective Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) just married in last season's finale on the show, and he's also a family man as the couple adopted daughter Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams). He also has a father suffering from dementia, who is now in a special care facility, so it will be interesting to see how the character is written out with so much personal drama in his storyline.

According to Deadline sources, "the time off comes as Flueger has being going through a difficult period personally, with an instance of alcohol use on set." With the break catching the writing team by surprise, upcoming scripts will need to be modified to reflect his absence.

Ruzek has always been Voight's righthand man, ready to stand by his sergeant through some of their borderline policing, so his absence from the team will be felt.
Ruzek will be seen in Wednesday night's "The Root Cause" episode of Chicago P.D. in which the Intelligence Unit races against time when a man from Torres's (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) own neighborhood is violently abducted.
Chicago P.D. airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Streams next day on Peacock.
