The injury and IR designation will sideline Love for a minimum of four games. The Cardinals have upcoming games against the Seahawks, Rams, Chiefs and Commanders.
Love injured his ankle in Sunday's win over the Dallas Cowboys when his ankle got rolled on a tackle. He was able to get up to walk to the sideline, but he did not return to the game as the Cardinals rallied from a 14-3 halftime deficit for a 33-30 overtime win.
The ankle injury is the third and most serious for Love since the Cardinals selected him with the No. 3 pick in April's NFL Draft.
Love previously sprained his right ankle in the preseason, causing him to miss multiple preseason games. He was ready to play in Arizona's Week 1 game against the Chargers.
The Cardinals revealed after a Week 4 loss to the Giants that Love was dealing with a left ankle injury. That injury sidelined him for games against the Rams and Broncos in Weeks 6 and 7. He returned from that injury to face the Cowboys before injuring his right ankle again before halftime.
Now Love is looking at an extended absence with the third ankle injury of his rookie season.
As the No. 3 draft pick this spring, Love is a big piece of Arizona's long-term plans. He was a star at Notre Dame who earned first-team All-America honors and the Doak Walker Award as college football's best running back as a junior. He tallied 1,652 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns in 2025 while averaging 6.9 yards per carry.
In six games with the Cardinals, Love has 268 rushing yards and one touchdown on 3.5 yards per carry. He also has 11 catches for 36 yards and a touchdown.
With Love sidelined, Tyler Allgeier takes over as the lead back in Arizona. Allgeier ran for 147 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries against the Cowboys. He also caught five passes for 44 yards and another touchdown.
