Staff, volunteers, and fans of Wags & Walks Nashville have a lot to celebrate after one very special rescue dog was finally adopted.
Timothy, the Pit Bull mix, was at the Tennessee dog rescue for 401 days before he found his forever home, and it turns out that his new parents have been following his sory the entire time. From the day he arrived as a sick, underweight 10-month-old puppy to the day Wags & Walks staff celebrated his sendoff, there’s no question that the last year of this rescue dog’s life was filled with lots of hope and love.
Congratulations, Timothy! Few dog rescue stories are as resilient as this one, and I give Wags & Walks Nashville 100% of the credit. They helped nurse him back to health when he was suffering from constant GI issues, and they kept their followers abrest of his recovery at every step of the way.
In fact, it was the rescue’s heartbreaking (and often heartwarming, too) social media posts about Timothy that originally caught the eye of the people who would eventually become his parents. As his one-year anniversary of rescue life approached, the couple reached out to learn more about him… and we all know how that story ends!

“We already love him so much,” Timothy’s new mom, Ally, commented on the rescue’s Instagram video. “So grateful for Wags and his wonderful fosters for bringing him into our life!”
I can’t get enough of this match made in heaven, including the ways the rescue staff celebrated Timothy’s Happily Ever After. Showing off his ‘Miley eyes’ made me laugh out loud, and I started to tear up as they surrounded him with applause as he left the rescue for the final time.
A local bakery and friend of the dog rescue even made him a dog-friendly cake!
Why Do Some Dogs Wait So Long to Get Adopted?
While some unlucky dogs like Timothy wait hundreds of days to get adopted, others are snatched up hours after they become available. Why is this?
In some cases, an animal’s fur color works for or against them. Darker colored pets can have facial expressions that are harder to read and harder to photograph. In this case, experimenting with lighting and new photography techniques can elevate their adoption bios to get the attention they deserve.

That’s not the case with Timothy, though, so what is it?
Large dogs also tend to wait longer at animal shelters and rescues, as not everyone has the space, means, or desire to handle a big dog. The same can be said for certain unfortunate dog breeds, including—you guessed it—Pit Bulls. Even though he’s a mixed-breed dog (I’m guessing Siberian Husky), Timothy may have been judged unfairly by his breed.
Whatever led to such a long wait, I’m thrilled to report that the wait is finally over. Now, this sweet young dog is living it up in a forever home where he’ll always be cherished—just like he’s always deserved!
