From there, Locksley will be part of Big Ten Network's weekend coverage through the conference championship game. He could also do some work during College Football Playoff coverage, according to SBJ .
Maryland announced Locksley's firing Oct. 21 amid his eighth season with the Terrapins. He had a 38-49 overall record and a 16-47 mark in Big Ten play since returning to Maryland as head coach in 2019. He previously served as the interim head coach in 2015 when he went 1-5 in Big Ten play.

However, the Terrapins went just 2-16 in conference action since the start of the 2024 season before Locksley's firing, including an 0-4 start this year. Maryland then made the move after a loss to Rutgers as one of the first dominoes in the coaching carousel.
"Following thoughtful conversations with Coach Locksley, we agreed that a coaching change was in the best interest of Coach Locksley and the Maryland football program," Maryland athletics director Jim Smith said in a statement. "On behalf of the University of Maryland, I want to thank Michael for his dedication to our football program and the genuine care he showed our student-athletes.
"Michael represented Maryland with pride, strengthened our connection throughout the state and the region, and made a lasting impact on the young men he coached. We are grateful to Michael, Kia, and his family for everything they have contributed to our university."
After his firing, Locksley told ESPN's Heather Dinich he doesn't necessarily expect to be a head coach in college football anymore. However, he said he would be interested in going to the NFL or working as a coordinator, while also leaving the door open to some TV work. He will now get that chance with Big Ten Network.
"To be honest I kind of knew it was coming, just didn't know when," Locksley told ESPN . "I'm not mad about leaving. I'm not. I'm at peace with it because I know it's better than what it was when I got here. A player died right before I got here and this place was burnt to the ground. Stabilized it, went to three bowls, NIL kicks in, and wasn't prepared for it."
