Megyn Kelly tells Olivia Rodrigo to “shut up and stick to singing” for supporting Jane Doe in Cornell rape case.

Otherwise, the conservative YouTube host warned, “I guarantee it’s not going to end well for you, Olivia.”

Kelly reacted to Rodrigo saying Jane Doe “deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change.”

After Olivia Rodrigo proclaimed that she stands with the Cornell rape case’s Jane Doe, Megyn Kelly is telling the singer to “sit down and be quiet.”

The conservative commentator went on a tirade on her YouTube channel, provoked by Rodrigo’s public support of the young woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted in October 2024 by seven Chi Phi members at the Ivy League university. According to Kelly, the Grammy winner doesn’t “know what the f--- you’re talking about” and should “shut up and stick to singing.”

“I liked you better when you were in front of a microphone singing your weird little depressing songs,” she continued. “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and let people suspect you’re an idiot than to open it and prove them right. Ever hear that saying? It applies to you, sweetheart.”

Kelly seemed particularly perturbed by a repost on Rodrigo’s Instagram Stories that demanded “economic reparations” for rape survivors, such as full scholarships and funding for therapy.

“Adults are talking... We don’t need the participation of know-nothing morons who have been auto-tuned into fame and suddenly think they have something profound to say on the culture wars,” continued the journalist — whose NBC News show, Megyn Kelly Today, was canceled in 2018, following remarks she made about the appropriateness of “blackface” for Halloween costumes.

If Rodrigo didn’t “sit down and be quiet” about the issue, warned Kelly, “I’m going to have to start pulling your music and your lyrics and take a deep dive into exactly the kind of messaging that you are pushing on young women. I guarantee it’s not going to end well for you, Olivia.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Rodrigo for comment.

Kelly’s rant was in response to a post Rodrigo made on Sunday, in which she shamed Cornell “and every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women.”

The singer also praised Jane Doe for her “bravery” and vowed that “the crimes against her will not go unpunished. What she lived through matters, and so does the failure of those who could have intervened but chose not to. She deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change.”

During her YouTube diatribe, Kelly said her main complaint with the case is the alleged victim remaining anonymous while the accused young men — whom she described as “nothing to write home about” — have been publicly identified.

“What’s being done to them now, threatening with decades of imprisonment over what was clearly a consensual, if disgusting, night at the Chi Phi House, is deeply wrong,” she insisted. “That’s deeply wrong morally.”

Michael Douglas says Catherine Zeta-Jones gave him an ultimatum early in their relationship

He was newly separated from Diandra Douglas and dating five women in different cities

Douglas and Zeta-Jones married in 1999 and share two children together

Michael Douglas had a few calls to make when Catherine Zeta-Jones made it clear she wasn’t interested in sharing him.

In his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, Douglas, 82, looks back on the early days of his relationship with Zeta-Jones, 57, and reveals that the actress wasn’t interested in becoming another relationship in his rotation. If he wanted to be with her, she made it clear, he had to be with her exclusively.

“She told me she understood that I was a single guy who’d come out of a long marriage, but she would only be monogamous,” Douglas writes. “‘I’m not interested in dating you if you’re dating other people. You can either continue with them or end it and be with me.’”

Douglas had a pretty simple response, though he needed a minute — or, more specifically, five phone calls.

“I told her wait here I have to make five quick calls. ‘Five? You have to make five calls?’” he recalls.

At the time, Douglas was still newly separated from his first wife, Diandra Douglas, whom he split from in 1995. He had been seeing five other women, though he says he viewed the arrangement as relatively straightforward.

“Just after my marriage, I had been seeing five other women. They knew I was recently separated and in the process of getting a divorce,” he writes. “I made sure they all lived in different cities, which felt like a respectful way to be non-monogamous.”

According to Douglas, none of the women had asked him for something more serious or even questioned whether he was seeing anyone else.

“None of them asked for a commitment or even asked what else I was up to. I am sure they were seeing other people, too,” he writes.

But once Zeta-Jones made her position clear, Douglas knew what he wanted to do.

“That day, I called each one to say I met somebody and would no longer be able to continue seeing them. They all took it well,” he writes.

And just like that, five relationships were over and Douglas was all in on Zeta-Jones.

One Helluva Ride doesn’t shy away from the romantic chapters that came before Douglas’ life with Zeta-Jones. He writes candidly about his past affairs, including romantic entanglements with his Romancing the Stone costar Kathleen Turner and Basic Instinct costar Jeanne Tripplehorn.

By the time he met Zeta-Jones, however, Douglas was already completely smitten. He first saw her in an early screening of her 1998 film The Mask of Zorro, then happened to cross paths with her a few weeks later at the Deauville American Film Festival in France while he was promoting A Perfect Murder.

He asked his publicist to arrange a meeting over drinks, and he quickly found himself impressed by more than her beauty.

“She was smart, funny, unpretentious, and, yes, breathtakingly beautiful. She just seemed so confident and self-assured, too,” Douglas recalls in the book.

Later, after a dinner with Zeta-Jones and her Zorro costar Antonio Banderas and his then-wifeMelanie Griffith, Douglas was even more taken with her. There was just one problem: He admits he was “smashed” by the end of the night.

As he walked Zeta-Jones to the hotel elevator to say good night, Douglas blurted out what would become one of his most memorable lines: “I’m going to be the father of your children.”

“It wasn’t a cheap pickup line. It was the truth,” he writes.

The pair went on to marry in 1999 and have two children, Dylan, 26, and Carys, 23. Douglas also shares son Cameron, 47, with Diandra, 70.

Nearly 26 years later, Douglas’ relationship with Zeta-Jones has only grown deeper.

“There’s just an unknown at a certain point over time,” he tells PEOPLE. “It goes beyond being attracted to somebody in this matter. It’s just an unknown bond of being close and… a mutual respect.”

One Helluva Ride by Michael Douglas is available now, wherever books are sold.

Mia Goth has filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf after 10 years of marriage.

The Hollywood stars had an on-and-off relationship for over a decade after meeting on the set of Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac: Vol II in 2012. The former couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Isabel, in 2022. The divorce filing comes as FKA Twigs and the former child star settled their NDA dispute, leaving the singer free to speak openly about their tumultuous relationship.

This follows news that Shia LaBeouf 'split from Mia Goth over a year ago,' as his New Orleans street fight video sparked concern.

• Grease star reveals he asked out 16-year-old girl and compares backlash to homophobia

• CNN fans say 'she needs an Emmy for not laughing' as Kaitlan Collins savages Donald Trump

According to Page Six, the 32-year-old actress filed the documents on Tuesday, October 6, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. The split may not come as a shock to many, as Mia and Shia had been estranged for over a year, with their separation date listed as July 28, 2025.

Per the filing, the Maxxxine star is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their four-year-old daughter, Isabel, and is requesting that neither she nor Shia be awarded spousal support.

After their breakup, the 40-year-old Even Stevens star relocated to New Orleans to be closer to family, where he was arrested after getting into a drunken street fight during Mardi Gras that was captured on video.

Shia opened up about his estrangement from Mia in March, telling 'Channel 5 With Andrew Callaghan,' "We were deeply unhappy. I made a lot of mistakes early on before we tried to have a baby. I had violated trust in a big, big way."

Mia and Shia were together on-and-off for over a decade, splitting in 2016 and reconciling in 2020, before welcoming their daughter two years later. During their time apart, the Transformers star was romantically linked with singer FKA Twigs and later actress Margaret Qualley.

The split comes just one day after singer-songwriter FKA Twigs resolved her legal dispute with the former Disney Channel star, whom she dated for about nine months after meeting on the set of the film Honey Boy in 2018.

In December 2020, she filed a lawsuit against Shia, accusing him of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse during their relationship.

The exes reached a private settlement in July 2025, but FKA, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, was barred from speaking publicly about what transpired during their short-lived romance after Shia filed an arbitration demand against her in December 2025.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court dismissed the arbitration, and the non-disclosure agreement was deemed "terminated and void," allowing the Grammy winner to speak freely "without fear of reprisal."

Josh Hartnett Leads Netflix’s Exhilarating Sea Monster Thriller ‘Below’: TV Review

The oceans’ vastness can feel ominous, and though scientists have studied what lurks beneath, so much remains unknown. In Netflix 's new limited series " Below ," creator Jesse McKeown introduces viewers to a tiny town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland, a man still haunted by his past and a family desperate to look ahead toward the future. Deeply intriguing and at times terrifying, "Below" is a perfectly paced thriller. The series masterfully blends genres, looking beyond the mythos of sea creatures to take a hard look at human nature, especially as we continue down the harrowing road of an irreparable climate crisis. "Below" opens in 1986 in Newfoundland. Nine-year-old Calvin Penney (Azriel Dalman) and his family are relocating from Little Pot Rock to a slightly larger island, Snook's Arm. Sitting in a boat, tugging their house behind them, the journey initially appears to be going smoothly. But, after a mysterious incident, Calvin is forced to cut the tow between the boat and the house, leaving his father to drown. Forty years later, adult Calvin ( Josh Hartnett ) is still haunted by the event. Though his father's death torments him, Calvin is an affable, hardworking widower. Fishing has long dried up in Snook's Arm, so Calvin and his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) make a living by collecting ice for a local vodka brewery and running an Airbnb out of their home. Calvin is especially pleased to celebrate Come Home Year because his other children, Mary (Ruby Stokes) and Jay (Rohan Campbell), are back to the island for a week-long stay. Unfortunately, the visit doesn’t go as smoothly as Calvin expects. The brewery rejects his latest ice haul due to its stench, which leads him to Dr. Fonda Howander (Mackenzie Davis), who runs the local science center. Soon, after Wade, who loves to self-medicate his ADHD with alcohol and mushrooms, is involved in a horrific accident, and Snook's Cove residents begin acting oddly, Calvin and Fonda realize something is amiss in the water. Save for Hartnett's hilarious attempt at a Newfoundland accent, "Below" is a gripping watch. McKeown offers audiences a beautiful snapshot of an eroding but close-knit community and a man determined to save it. Though Calvin's children and sister Ruth (Willow Kean), who works as Snook's Arms Harbor Master, realize there are very few resources left to hold on to, Calvin digs in his heels, determined to find a way forward. As the town and its residents descend into chaos after a massive iceberg emerges from the water, Calvin realizes it might all be connected to his father's accident. At just six episodes, each running 45 minutes or less, "Below" is engrossing because it's more than it appears. Although a horrifying sea creature sits at the center of the show, this story is about a man desperate to cling to a decaying past, a grieving family and how greed can create monsters. Episode 4, "The Ocean Will Have Us All," is particularly riveting. The episode centers around the creature, but it also showcases how far people are willing to go and who they will sacrifice — no matter the cost — for their own selfish gains. The final minutes of the episode show some gutting displays of inhumanity, which only begin to make sense in the penultimate episode, titled "Little Pot Rock." In the end, "Below" is a captivating ride blending horror and suspense while centering our very real climate crisis. As a result, McKeown delivers a truly unique story in a well-worn genre. By examining the Penney family and the place they call home, the show addresses the fragility of life, the impermanence of place and how small we are in the universe. Moreover, the series reminds audiences that change is inevitable, and the only way to deal with it is to shift and adjust when it comes. James Gunn Responds to ‘Clayface’ Criticism: ‘The Public Voting on What IP They Want to See’ Isn’t ‘the Only Way to Make a Movie’

James Gunn has an answer to the question of "who tf asked for a Clayface movie," posed by a user on the DC Studios head's Threads account earlier this week.

"Who tf asked for Back to the Future? Casablanca? There’s Something About Mary? Pan’s Labyrinth? Fury Road? Weapons? The Matrix?" Gunn fired back on the platform . (The user's original comment has since been deleted.) "Although it may seem like it, Hollywood isn’t a place where the only way to make a movie is the public voting on what IP they want to see that they’ve seen countless times before." Related Stories AI Film ‘Gods Don’t Give Gifts’ Sets First Trailer for December Theatrical Run, Plans Oscar Bid for Best Animated Feature

He posted again: "Sometimes someone — in this case initially Mike Flanagan and then James Watkins and Hossein Amini — were inspired by a relatively little-known fictional character and crafted what I believe is a very special story around that character. I’d take that inspiration a thousand times over some writer trying to make a buck by writing a listless screenplay about a majorly popular character he or she has no passion or feel for." Popular on Variety

Despite the fact that Clayface is a considerably nicher choice for a feature film compared to past DC movies like "Supergirl" and "Superman," most fans have been eagerly awaiting the premiere of “Clayface” since the gory trailer premiered months ago. And while versions of the character have appeared on screen in the years since the comic's 1940 debut, the film, directed by James Watkins ("Speak No Evil"), marks the first time audiences will see the shape-shifting villain in a film all of his own.

Tom Rhys Harries plays the titular character, also known as Matt Hagen. "Matt Hagen's meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss's actions leave him horribly disfigured," reads the film's official description. "Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting-edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self... but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge." Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan also star.

Doha Film Festival Unveils Competition Lineup With Accent on Female Filmmakers and Middle East Fare

The upcoming Doha Film Festival has unveiled its 15-title competition lineup made up mostly of Middle East premieres of movies from the region, seven of which directed by women.

As previously announced, Yemeni-Scottish filmmaker Sara Ishaq's timely drama “The Station,” which looks at the impact of Yemen’s civil war on the country, is set as opener of the revamped event's second edition, which will run Nov. 19-27 in the Qatari capital. Related Stories Fox News Puts Spotlight on News Team as Midterm Elections Approach Billy Bush to Join Fox News as Contributor

Similarly to last year’s inaugural event, the Palestinian plight features prominently in the selection with four Palestinian films in competition. They include: Hosam Abu Dan's debut feature “Thirteen in Gaza,” shot entirely in the Gaza strip, that won a prize in Toronto; the doc “Sama,” by Rabab Khamis, about a 10-year-old girl from Gaza who collects plastic and cardboard to sell as fuel, which is world-premiering in Doha; and absurdist drama "Conversations with the Sea," directed by Muayad Alayan, that launched in Venice. Popular on Variety

Other standout titles in the Doha competition strand include Moroccan filmmaker and photographer Tala Hadid’s “Bardi” (film still, above) in which “farmers and workers in central Morocco become warriors and princes through Tbourida, a centuries-old equestrian tradition,” as the synopsis puts it. The film recently had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival.

Sub-Saharan Africa is repped by two entries: “House of the Wind” by Cameroon's Auguste Bernard Kouemo Yanghu that won both the Lion of the Future for a first film and the Special Orizzonti Jury Prize at Venice; and gritty, rap-infused “My Semba,” a portrait of Angola's underground scene that follows three orphaned siblings in Luanda and blends documentary and fiction filmmaking.

Three entries from Asia include “9 Temples to Heaven,” directed by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, which follows a family visiting nine temples in a single day in the hope of keeping their grandmother alive. The film is Thailand's international Oscar submission.

Eleven of the 15 titles that will screen in Doha are supported by the Doha Film Institute.

“Cinema has the power to carry voices across borders and create connections where distance and difference might otherwise divide us,” said Doha Film Institute CEO Fatma Hassan Alremaihi in a statement. “Doha Film Festival was created to give those voices a home, particularly filmmakers who challenge conventions to bring unheard stories to the screen and demonstrate the possibilities of independent cinema,” she added.

The revamped Doha Film Festival has transformed the DFI's existing Ajyal Film Festival, dedicated to youth and family-friendly cinema, into a more ambitious international event for a broader audience.

The top prizes to be dished out will be: best narrative, worth $75,000; documentary, worth $50,000; artistic achievement, worth $45,000; and the gender-neutral performance acting award, worth $15,000.

Key partners of the Doha Film Festival include Katara, Media City Qatar - Film Committee, and Visit Qatar.

Guillermo Rodriguez reacted to Carrie Ann Inaba’s surprising comments about his week 4 DWTS dance.

His pro partner, Witney Carson, told EW she “disagreed completely” with Inaba’s critique that his “joy” was missing.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick survived another week and will continue on in the competition.

Guillermo Rodriguez is plenty joyful, despite Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s surprising comments.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick and his pro partner, Witney Carson, danced a crowd-pleasing samba to “Obsessed” during week 4’s “Mariah Carey Night” on Tuesday, Oct. 6, but Inaba wasn’t too impressed.

While critiquing his 13 out of 30 performance, the judge asked Rodriguez, “What was going on? No, I’m serious. Where is all your joy? That special thing that you bring every time?”

She continued, “I felt like you were dimming your light a little bit in this dance.”

Audience members, children included, booed Inaba, who insisted, “Look, this is what I get paid for, people.”

She went on to explain that she doesn’t want the funnyman “to ever dim [his] light,” telling him, “You’re special, and you have a natural gift that we all need. Don’t ever not smile in a dance, I need your light. We all do.”

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Rodriguez and Carson after the show to discuss Inaba’s comments, which Carson said she “completely” disagreed with.

“You know what, samba is real hard. It’s a hard dance, it’s a lot of steps and everything,” Rodriguez told EW. “And it was hard for me this week—the dance. But, I did a good job, I did my best. You can ask Witney...”

“Listen, we were trying to get into the diva character, so maybe Carrie Ann thought it was a little bit of his light being dimmed. But I disagree, completely,” Carson stated, “and I think most of America would probably disagree with that, as well.”

Fellow judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli, although critical of Rodriguez’s technique, still thought the dance was a good time. Hough called it “100 percent Guillermo” while Tonioli deemed him “a national obsession.”

Carson reiterated that seeing Rodriguez dive into the prima donna mentality was perhaps too jarring for Inaba.

“I think no matter what character Guillermo plays, he’s always going to have a light around him,” she explained. “I don’t think his light ever diminishes or fails if he’s a different character—it’s just a different side to him. It doesn’t mean that his light has dimmed at all.”

“That’s why she’s the best,” Rodriguez chimed in of his supportive teammate. “[Witney] is great. I would listen to her if she said, ‘We are going to do this, you’re going to take off your shirt, we’re going to do this, and that.’ I listen to her, whatever she says. ‘Oh yeah, sure.’ I do it.”

“Listen,” Carson joked, “Happy life, happy wife. Happy partner—it’s all the same thing.”

Rodriguez and Carson have consistently been up for elimination, with Carson explaining in a TikTok last week that it doesn’t necessarily mean they have the least amount of votes.

“But it does mean that you don’t get to celebrate that you’re safe; you only get to hear who’s going home,” she explained, clapping back at the idea that she wants Rodriguez to be sent home because she’s pregnant.

“I am very happy that we’re continuing on. He really deserves [to be here],” she shared of her celebrity partner, who just survived another week after Ciara Miller was eliminated. “He’s genuinely a kind person, he genuinely wants to get better. He never gives up. Any time I’m resting in rehearsals, he’s practicing. Any time we’re at TVC [studios] and we’re just hanging out, he’s practicing. What you see on Tuesdays is his very best, and I think there’s a lot to say about someone who may not have the skills but is willing to learn and put in the work. That’s an amazing thing, and he deserves it.”

Carson, who shares sons Leo, 5, and Jet, 3, with husband Carson McAllister, said that despite people being concerned about her health, she “feels really good” and is just “more tired than usual.” The pro insisted that she is resting when needed and following doctors’ orders.

“I know how far to push my body and the baby’s health has always been my number one priority,” Carson insisted. “I have no reserves when it comes to speaking up about physically overdoing it, which I do not feel that way at all, and the show is more than willing to help out in any capacity.”

Hayley Williams Proves There’s a Lot More to Her Than Paramore in a Galvanizing Solo Show at the Hollywood Bowl: Concert Review

Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic

When do trimmings become the main course? Or, to pose it in employment terms: When does a side hustle became the real hustle? And can that just go down without a hitch?

These are just ways into trying to think about developments in the career of Hayley Williams , who easily sold out two shows this week at the Hollywood Bowl , something we wouldn’t necessarily have taken for granted for her as a solo artist even a couple of years ago. In the first of two nights there Monday, Williams performed for almost exactly two hours without doing a single Paramore song — and what’s remarkable is, nobody cared.

Well, maybe that’s an overstatement: Probably someone out there in the full house of 17,000 had read the promo material for the tour and figured the promise of material from her three solo albums “plus exciting surprises” at least left room for the possibility of a Paramore or tune or two. But the “exciting surprises” on Monday amounted to a Portishead cover and a surprise encore appearance by Zedd, as opposed to “That’s What You Get.” Which was fine. More than fine, really: Williams’ Bowl set made for one of the most satisfying rock shows you could see this year, regardless of the fact that the only misery business being transacted was the unusually sweltering October weather that had everyone present walking up in a sweat.

Speaking of boiling, this all boils down to: What a difference a single album can make. For Williams, that album was 2025’s “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party,” which she originally dribbled out in mysterious spurts like it was a bunch of between-project demos before everyone gradually realized that it added up to the game-changer project of her career. Five months ago or so, she did a tour of small theaters (see Variety ‘s review of her May L.A. show at the Wiltern ) in which the setlist consisted primary of all 20 tracks from “Ego Death,” plus an excerpt of “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” as a bonus mission statement. For anyone who caught that mini-tour, which felt surprisingly closer to a full meal than a teaser, it’s no surprise that this current fall amphitheater run feels like a decent summation of a long-building repertoire, rather than the shorter sliver of her life’s work to date that she’s actually offering.

Part of the pleasure Williams is clearly taking in this current outing is that she’s getting to tour behind two albums at once — not just “Ego Death,” which she’s now doing 12 tracks from, but a good 10 from “Petals for Armor,” the 2020 album that she’d planned to follow up wih a debut solo tour before the pandemic changed plans. Perhaps it shouldn’t be a huge shock that, in contrast, she only picked one selection from the album that came between these two, 2021’s “Flowers for Vases/Descansos,” an album so flagrantly somber it felt like a side project among side projects. But the one “Vases” song that did get performed, “Just a Lover,” got an interesting spot — or spots, since solemn excerpts from it were played by her at the piano to open the show and then be reprised at the close of the main set, perhaps as a reminder of how un-perky her music could be if she let more depressing thoughts take over. (One of the despondent lines from that song, “No more music for the masses,” was emblazoned on one of the shirts sold at the merch stand, proving that the singer maintains a fine-tuned sense of irony.)

Williams can be plenty downbeat, lyrically, at least, even when she’s keeping those other “Flowers for Vases” songs locked in the closet. And it was telling, in some way, that the one cover song she has added to this tour is Portishead’s “Wandering Star,” which is literally the farthest thing from sunny, with its grief-stricken verses and “The blackness of darkness forever” refrain — performed with Williams hovering over an old-school-looking computer bank to produce those sounds, as seen in a direct-overhead shot on the Bowl’s big screens. She did mean to take a bit to get the party started, as that descent into celestial bleakness was only the third song in the set. But then the cheerful “Hayley Williams Show” logo appeared on screen, as if we had just passed through an extended pre-credits sequence. “Simmer,” a “Petals” song that is one of her most emotional and vivid, followed, with its message that one way out from a traumatic relationship is to embrace a righteous rage.

Williams took till the sixth song, “Ice in My OJ,” to finally broach the “Ego Death” album and some of its less soul-scouring material. (The song’s already ambiguous “I’m in a band!” chant takes on further layers, now that she’s out on the road with a pretty great assembly of musicians, that isn’t Paramore.) “Kill Me” quickly followed as one of her best current anthemic singalongs — not as nihilistic as it sounds, so much as just having some playful, emotionally exhausted fun twisting around Nietzsche’s overquoted words. “Hard” followed — her brutally honest look at the baggage around the feminine mystique, and the no-win situations that come with being a Woman in Rock. “My Friend” found her putting on a mask, literally, as a makeup person came out to affix glitter and paint around her eyes, as seen in extreme camera closeups, allowing her to look Mardi Gras-ready for the rest of the night, even if the actual party on stage had its emo ebbs and flows.

The poignant “Leave It Alone” saw the arrival of a female string quartet that periodically reappeared throughout the set — and also the intriguing use of a polyrhythm complex enough that you had to remind yourself it was your mind that was out of time, not the band itself. After this, Williams took time out between songs to celebrate the audience’s approval of all the “Petals for Amor” songs, like “Leave It Alone,” that had provided the majority of the set thus far, half-seriously remarking that the whole tour was a “Trojan horse” to get to finally play that material.

Among the “Petals for Armor” songs in the set that were performed without comment: “Dead Horse,” a song understood to be about her relationship with former husband Chad Gilbert. As fans had noted, she took it out of the set for three concerts following his death last month, apparently out of respect, but it’s back in, because history is history, and relational trauma transformed into a sing-along dance track is always a recipe for concert success.

Truth be told, as much cathartic fun as “Dead Horse” is — tempered by recent events or otherwise — there’s not a track on her more recent record that doesn’t beat it. And the second half of the show really soared as she uppped the “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party” quotient, including the title track, which had footage of Nashville’s Lower Broadway logjams projected onto not just the stage but the Bowl’s entire proscenium. “Turns out he’s the least of our problems in Nashville,” she quipped, apparently referring to Morgan Wallen, the presumed “racist country singer” whose bar she visits in the tune, without expounding on who or what is even worse. “God bless Dolly Parton,” she added, bringing up a more universally beloved ambassador from her home state. Related Stories Reba McEntire Says She Missed a Call from Dolly Parton Before Her Death and ‘Couldn’t’ Get Back in Touch: ‘I’ll Never Know Why She Called’ Kacey Musgraves Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Dolly Parton With 'I Will Always Love You' Performance at MTV Video Music Awards

Earlier, she’d gotten as political as she was going to during “Ice in My OJ,” popping in between lines to exclaim “Fuck ICE!” and “Free Palestine,” as is her nightly custom. (She expounded a bit more in her Instagram account earlier Monday. There’d been some news pickup of her “Fuck ICE” commentary at an earlier show, to which the White House officially responded, “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Williams to (sic) thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice.” The singer replied to the presidents team on IG: “And may I suggest all Nazi bitches suck on my fat dick.”)

Sadly, nothing she had to say at the Bowl was quite as colorful as what she has told the Trump administration on social media. But she did introduce “True Believer,” the recent song where she reckons with her own Southern heritage, the way she does each night on tour, saying: “The biggest threat to American democracy is Christian nationalism.” This standout number was conceived and is performed as a broadside against the hypocrisy she has spoken about growing up around in Tennessee; buried within it, plaintively, is a very sad gospel song.

Williams was definitely letting her ex-vangelical freak flag fly on Monday night. She performed in a white mini-dress adorned by six apparently hand-drawn devil faces on the front, and a bigger and more sketched-in devil’s head on the back… all just above the cross inked on her upper thigh. At the end of her solo-piano cover of the Nina Simone/Animals classic “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” she put her hands to her head and used her fingers to form devil horns, which were writ large onto a background screen by a spotlight in the foreground making a silhouette. She won’t be the last church kid to be working out some issues literally in a spotlight.

Does she count as a punk? The question arose in my mind the other week just because she used a statement she issued after her ex-husband’s death to thank him for helping introduce her to the hardcore scene, back when she was a teenager. Now, although pop-punk has been a reasonable loose description for some of Paramore’s music in the past, “hardcore” is not how you’d likely think of her distinctly melodic and flavorful music, then or now. But seeing her in action (or reading her in action, when she’s taking on Trump’s people), the influence is very much discernible, in her attitude. From her homemade dress to her literal stance on stage, Williams is a rock ‘n’ roller, regardless of what style of music she’s exploring in a particular song — even the nostalgic bubblegum of the night’s penultimate number, her and Zedd’s 2013 collaboration “Stay the Night,” a reminder of a time when her fangs were a little more hidden.

(If we want to use punk-rock purely as a term of endearment, there is something of a punk ethos to Williams’ commitment to keeping tickets relatively low-priced and difficult to scalp, too, via the Face Value program. Even though tickets immediately sold out months ago, most of the good ones coming in around a reasonable $130, on the day of the show it was easy to find some resale tickets at that same value, due to the measures put in place, which ultimately contributed to the feel-good quality of the gig.)

After her aside with Zedd, Williams brought things back to the now with the nightly closer, one of the best songs from “Ego Death,” “Parachute,” one of those numbers that manages to sound ecstatic and defeated at the same time, with its “I thought you were gonna catch me!” chorus. Is she singing to a friend in that song? Or maybe to Mirtazapine (the subject of another great encore inclusion)? Even a favorite med can let you down. Popular on Variety

That finale number had a tinge of hard-earned bitterness, but at the same time, it’s really a glorification of hard-earned self-sufficiency. Which is not a bad message to send a crowd of mostly young people out with… and a little bit appropriate for the state of her own career, where suddenly she is… bigger than Paramore? Is that possible? Maybe not, in the most realistic sense. But you do get the feeling that, with her first two solo albums, she was trying to dance outside the edges of what that band would do, and now, with this latest one and its subsequent tours, she isn’t afraid to keep it intensely personal but also take it bigger and broader, without worrying whether it steps on the toes of her other gig by getting too raucous, or too rock.

Not to negate the other thing, which you get the feeling could come back in a couple of years, or never, or some time in between. You can believe that the stuff she’s doing now is as good as she’s gotten, and still think it’d be fun to see Paramore reconvene and play the Bowl, too, some time down the road. Right now, anyway, it’s Hayley Williams’ bachelorette party, and the favors are tremendous.

Questlove Reflects on the Power of Vulnerability and Being a Trailblazer: ‘I Gotta Be the Change I Want to Be’

More than 30 years into his career, Questlove is still open to change.

The Roots frontman and multi-hyphenate has performed in Jimmy Fallon's in-house band for over a decade, was a producer on the "Hamilton" cast album, is an adjunct professor at NYU, hosts a podcast and has written eight books.

Since 2020, Questlove has also directed four documentaries. It was that endeavor that he was initially most opposed to: "I had to do a lot of work to realize that — I know it’s cliché — I gotta be the change I want to be." Related Stories 'Tenzing' Actor Tenzin Dalha Unveiled as Male Lead in Bengali Thriller 'Chheledhora' (EXCLUSIVE) 'The Smell of Apples' Review: A Sun-Soaked but Chilling Child's-Eye View of Apartheid-Era Privilege and Denial

Questlove sat down with Variety ‘s Jem Aswad to discuss embracing vulnerability and being a changemaker at the Variety Experience and Culture Summit: The IRL Advantage presented by OUTFRONT.

Questlove said he would have called Prince his North Star when he first entered the industry. Now, with the "residue" of his Earth, Wind & Fire documentary still lingering, he said he feels like a new artist. "I’m still learning what the Questlove brand is,” he said. “I joke that this is Questlove 3.0 happening right now."

"Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs That's the Weight of the World)" was released in June. Directed and produced by Questlove, the documentary explores the band's career and that of its founder, Maurice White. While creating the documentary, he read many of the books White read during the band's genesis, which inspired his current approach to creativity.

Questlove recalled the "too cool for school" attitude he saw in artists like Miles Davis and his own mindset on his records as protecting vulnerability. "We see it in our politics. We see it in our creativity,” he said. “We’re going to implode as a world if we don’t learn what emotions are and how we can use our vulnerability."

Questlove’s first documentary project, "Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)," about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, came out in 2021. "You can't discount the timing of everything," he said of the film's arrival after the initial lockdown and protests following the murder of George Floyd. He said people saw the film because they were curious, but "they didn’t realize how important it was to celebrate joy."

His next project, "Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)," focused more on the tendency he noticed in Black creatives to self-sabotage after becoming successful. Then came the Earth, Wind & Fire documentary, which he made because he "wanted to make a film that lets us focus on our dreams."

Still, Questlove didn't think he was the right person for the job of documentarian prior to "Summer of Soul." "I didn't know I was a storyteller," he said. "I’m out there like, 'Well, search for a real storyteller,' and they’re like, 'Dude, you’re that storyteller.' Once I realized it, it became a passion." He described himself as someone who will use history to attract audiences, but will put things in his films to make the audience reckon with their present.

While he has ventured into filmmaking, Questlove has not left music behind. The Roots Picnic held its 18th iteration this May, headlined by Jay-Z. The festival has grown, but "we’re not just rubber-stamping," he said. "We are curating the festival. We’re playing with some of the acts, and people really feel like a community."

On "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," The Roots serve as — among other things — the live walk-up music for guests. Some celebrities send requests for their entrance song, but Questlove said, "the magic of the show is what I choose your walk-on song."

The best thing about "The Tonight Show," Questlove said, is that it allows the band members to be present with their families. "The Beatles broke up after seven years, and we’re going on year 35 and we’re still like the best of friends," he said. "We’re still as silly as we were in high school, and still fun. If you’re not friends with your partners, then all this is for naught."

Valerie Bertinelli fired back at “haters” after posting a tribute to her ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen, on the anniversary of his death.

On Tuesday, October 6, the One Day at a Time and Hot in Cleveland actress, 66, took to Instagram with a video message for followers.

“Strap in haters, let’s go for a little ride,” she captioned the update, alongside emojis of a hand flashing a peace sign, a white heart, and red lips.

In the video, she shook her head and pointed out, “It does not take long for me to get a lot of pushback when I post a picture of me and Ed. It used to really bother me. It does not. Not any longer because I learned a lot.”

Van Halen died at 65 in 2020, following a stroke and battles with lung cancer and throat cancer. He and Bertinelli were married from 1981 to 2007; during that time they welcomed a son, Wolfgang Van Halen, 35.

“So they’ll never quite say the words, ‘You’re not allowed to love your ex-husband. That’s ridiculous. You can’t love him,'” she explained. “No, they never quite say that. But they will berate you and berate you for months. Make you think you’re crazy until you finally say, ‘OK, fine. I don’t love him.'”

Bertinelli continued, “They will never say the words, ‘You cannot go to your son’s concert.’ But when you do, they will make that night miserable. They will never say, ‘Take that picture down — the one of your ex-husband, along with you and your son in better days.’… They’ll say, ‘You’re obsessed,’ and all kinds of f***ed up s*** until you take the picture down.”

Additionally, she declared that “coercive control is insidious and it’s soul-breaking,” adding, “And I cannot believe that I f***ing fell for it.”

Bertinelli also pointed out that “nobody can tell you how you feel” and her “heart can hold a lot of love.”

To conclude her message, the former Kids Baking Championship judge shared, “So you can’t bother me. I love Ed. I never stopped loving Ed. And my heart loves a lot. Don’t you wish yours could too?”

Earlier that day, Bertinelli posted a short but impactful Instagram tribute to Eddie with a photo of them in a car. She wrote, “Photos may fade, like old photos do, but not the memories and never the love.”

Princess Beatrice and her now-husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi got engaged in Italy in September 2019. They wed in July 2020.

Beatrice’s Art Deco-meets-Victorian engagement ring features a 2.5-carat central diamond and tapered side baguette stones.

She also received a platinum wedding band from her husband, breaking with the royal tradition of exchanging Welsh gold wedding bands.

Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring was months in the making.

The princess entered her fiancée era back in September 2019, when her now-husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi proposed to her on a trip to Italy. Rather than commissioning a ring from Garrard—the former court jeweler behind many royal baubles—Mozzi turned to jeweler Shaun Leane to create a bespoke piece. The process reportedly took four months, from ideating the design to proposing with the finished ring.

“I am so honored Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives,” Leane said in a statement after the engagement announcement, per People.

Beatrice and Mozzi got married in July 2020, holding a small, private ceremony at Windsor’s Royal Chapel of All Saints. They’ve since welcomed two daughters: Sienna Elizabeth and Athena Elizabeth Rose. Although the girls don’t have titles, they both have a spot in the line of succession to the British throne.

Royal jewelry fans can’t get enough of the unique design of Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring. Here’s what to know about her sparkler, from its carats and cost to its connection to Meghan Markle’s ring.

The ring features a 2.5-carat round-cut diamond and tapered baguettes.

Soon after the engagement announcement, designer Leane told People all the details behind the latest royal bling. “The main diamond is 2.5 karats. The baguette diamonds on the side are .75 karats,” he said. The stones are set in a platinum band.

Per People, Leane and Mozzi worked on the ring for four months before he popped the question to his future bride. “Edo was very prepared and he had done his research. He had a very strong feeling about what he wanted,” Leane shared. “He knew that he wanted a round stone, and he knew he wanted platinum.

“We talked about aesthetic and he said, ‘I really love Art Deco, and Beatrice really likes a Victorian aesthetic in jewelry,’” the designer continued. “We talked about fusing the two together and he thought it would be lovely to do that, to fuse their two personalities together within the ring. There was a real unity.”

It shares a key detail with Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.

Beatrice’s proposal piece shares subtle connections with another royal bride’s engagement ring. For one, Meghan Markle received a three-stone ring from Prince Harry in 2017. Rather than tapered baguettes, Markle’s bling features round-cut side stones sourced from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s jewelry.

The more surprising connection? Per Leane, the diamonds in Beatrice’s sparkler “are from Botswana and ethically sourced”—just like the central diamond on the Duchess of Sussex’s ring. Meghan and Harry have a sentimental connection to the South African country, having spent their romantic third date camping under the stars there.

Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring has an estimated worth of $165,000.

Royal engagement rings can set their buyers back by millions at their most extravagant. Princess Beatrice’s bling has an estimated six-figure price tag, placing it on the humbler end of the spectrum. Initial reports suggested it was worth $310,000. Maxwell Stone of U.K. fine jewelry brand Steven Stone gave Brides a more conservative estimate, pricing it at $165,000.

Mozzi proposed in Italy, about a year after they began dating.

The princess and the property tycoon had known each other for years when they reportedly began dating in November 2018, according to People. A little less than a year into their relationship, Mozzi asked Beatrice to marry him during a weekend holiday in Italy.

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” the couple said in a statement shared by the royal family in September 2019. “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

They flouted royal tradition with Beatrice’s wedding band.

The couple’s 2020 wedding was kept small due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were able to attend, according to the BBC. The former monarch and her husband witnessed a bit of tradition-breaking at the ceremony. While royal couples have historically exchanged Welsh gold bands on their wedding days, Mozzi and Leane chose a platinum band for Beatrice.

“We designed the ring in platinum because we wanted it to aesthetically match and entwine with the engagement ring,” the jeweler told People after the ceremony. “The rings have been made for each other and there’s a romance in that.” He also revealed that Beatrice’s wedding band has over 0.5 carats of the “purest and highest quality diamonds.”

She’s praised Mozzi for his design abilities.Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Beatrice in September 2019.Credit: @princesseugenie

Not only was Beatrice overjoyed with the ring Mozzi designed for her in collaboration with Leane, but she’s since praised his overall artistic talents in interviews.

Appearing on the Lessons in Dyslexic Thinkingpodcast in 2023, she said of her husband, “[He’s] hugely creative. So yes, an incredible designer and a property developer. [He] can see sort of concepts and space in a very beautiful way, and I think it’s also pushed him to be the entrepreneur that he is, and accepting that he needed to do things on his own.”

She also opened up about her and Mozzi’s experiences living with dyslexia, a language-based learning disability. “It’s very interesting to see how many entrepreneurs are dyslexic because they recognize that maybe they do have to push the boundaries,” Beatrice shared. As for herself, she said she was “so grateful and lucky to have a dyslexic thinking mindset, because it definitely pushes me a little bit further to try and solve some of these challenges and try and help as much as I can.”

Kelly Ripa is already planning her own funeral, even though she is very much alive. The talk show host recently shared some unusual ideas about how she wants the event to look. She also made one thing clear about her husband, Mark Consuelos: he will not handle one important part of the plans.

Kelly Ripa lays out her funeral plans with Mark Consuelos

Ripa discussed her future funeral with Consuelos on Wednesday’s Live With Kelly and Mark. The conversation started after they talked about a woman who held her own funeral while still alive so she could enjoy the celebration. Ripa then told longtime producer Michael Gelman, “I’ll let you throw my funeral, but I’ve got some requests.” She added, “It’s going to be a destination.”

Consuelos, whom Ripa has been married to for 30 years, then asked if he would handle her clothes for the event. Ripa immediately rejected that idea and said, “No! If Gelman is throwing my funeral, my stylist is getting me dressed.” She explained that she and her husband had “already discussed” why he should never dress her. The comment referenced a previous hospital incident described in her Live Wire memoir.

Ripa recalled losing consciousness and Consuelos calling 911 before getting her dressed for the hospital. She joked that she “sailed in right past the gunshot victims because I looked so bad.” That memory helped explain why Ripa did not want him handling her funeral outfit.

Consuelos later asked again if he had any responsibility for getting her ready. Ripa told him to let everyone handle their usual jobs and gave him a different role. “You be there, you eulogize, say nice things,” she told him. Ripa also reminded everyone that in her “FOMO funeral” scenario, she would attend the event because she would still be alive. Kelly Ripa’s funeral plans showed that her playful sense of humor extended even to imagining her own send-off.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ release date has been moved back to March 2, 2028

Previously, the music mogul was scheduled to get out of prison in January

The move comes after PEOPLE reported Combs had been placed in solitary confinement in the wake of an NBC report that revealed he’d been seen with contraband items

Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ prison release date has been pushed back in the aftermath of a report alleging he had spent thousands of dollars in order to live a more pampered lifestyle behind bars.

Combs, who is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, is now scheduled to be released on March 2, 2028, according to Bureau of Prisons (BOP) records.

The listed date had previously been Jan. 21, 2028.

“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including reasons for a change in release date,” the BOP told PEOPLE on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

A source previously told PEOPLE that the Bad Boy Records founder had been moved to solitary confinement in response to an NBC News report, which alleged Combs had been seen with contraband items, including a cellphone, while in prison.

PEOPLE can confirm Combs remains in solitary confinement.

According to the NBC report, Combs had a “jailbroken” tablet, which he used to watch movies and documentaries, including Netflix’s Sean Combs: The Reckoning.

A source also confirmed to PEOPLE that Combs had been seen using a cell phone to look at Instagram and sexually explicit photos sent by a former girlfriend.

Combs reportedly also had special meals cooked for him and received massages, per NBC, which also reported he had been seen drinking cognac.

The music mogul was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious charges, which could have landed him in prison for life, at the conclusion of a closely watched federal trial in New York City.

After his sentencing, Combs was transferred to Fort Dix, a low-security federal facility. During his trial, he had been incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
