He was first married to Ellen Morrison from 1925 to 1937. He then tied the knot with Jane Garrison. The pair were married twice: from 1939 to 1940 and the second time from 1946 to 1980. Born in 1929 in Buffalo, N.Y., Blake was married five times, including to Frank Gilbert, with whom she co-founded a cheetah breeding program. Blake was very passionate about animal welfare and co-founded the Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) in 1971. The AAWL is now the oldest and largest "no-kill" shelter in the state. Born in 1924 in Missouri, Weaver was married to his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Stowell, with whom he had three children. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 1986. He passed away on Feb. 24, 2006, at the age of 81. One person was killed and 11 other people were wounded in a shooting Sunday morning at a party in western North Carolina, according to theCatawba County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies and Hickory police officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View community, about 57 miles northwest of Charlotte, at 12:45 a.m. There had been a noise complaint at the home at around 11 p.m. Saturday that deputies responded to, Sheriff's Maj. Aaron Turk said at anews briefingSunday afternoon. Deputies addressed it with the residents of the home, had them turn the music down and "left a short time later," Turk said. Over an hour later, the sheriff's office received multiple 911 calls about a shooting, reporting multiple victims, Turk said. The party included teenagers and people in their 20s and older. "They discovered what ended up being 12 people shot. One of the 12 was deceased on scene," Turk said. "Another of those 12 was critically injured and is presently at the hospital in Charlotte — in one of the hospitals in Charlotte." Others were treated in local hospitals, Turk said, adding that some have been released, while others were still receiving treatment. The deceased victim was identified as Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, the sheriff's office said. No one had been arrested Sunday afternoon, the sheriff's office said. A preliminary investigation determined that more than one shooter and more than one weapon, including long guns, were involved. Authorities do not believe that the shooting was random or "a circumstance that might endanger the community," Turk said. The sheriff's office, Hickory police and State Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating. Investigators were speaking with victims and people who attended the event, officials said. Turk said it has been difficult to track down information about the incident, adding that "it spans several separate individual pieces of property" larger than around 2 acres. "In circumstances where there's a large gathering of people that have come for some common event, like a party, that nobody lives here, nobody is local to here, they all leave — we're trying to track those people down," he said. Officials are also looking into a motive, including animosity between people at the party, Turk said. There is no link between the noise complaint and the shooting, he said. "We are certainly hopeful to find those that are responsible and bring them here, to justice," he said. The sheriff's office asks anyone with information about the shooting to get in touch. Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown underscored the rarity of such an incident in the western North Carolina community and spoke about a rise in violence among younger people that he has been seeing — including when they have been perpetrators and victims. "I talked to some neighbors here; they were visibly upset," Brown said. "And to our staff that works these types of cases, it's very difficult. It's taxing on them. They've been out here all night."

First Bouts Of Saharan Dust Are Reaching Caribbean, US. Here's What To Know About Its Impact On Hurricane Season And Your Health

The first big surge of Saharan dust is expected to reach the Gulf Coast this week. Here's what you need to know about this dust: In Brief: Saharan dust travels thousands of miles from Africa to the Americas each spring and summer. Once or twice a summer, one of these SALs makes a complete 5,000-plus mile journey as far west as the Gulf Coast, from Florida to Texas. In Depth: More formally, it is known as the Saharan Air Layer (SAL), this dry dust plume commonly forms from late spring through early fall and moves into the tropical Atlantic Ocean every three to five days, according to NOAA'sHurricane Research Division. The Saharan Air Layer is typically located between 5,000 and 20,000 feet above the Earth's surface. It is transported westward by bursts of strong winds and tropical waves as they move westward from Africa to the Pacific. Here are three things dust can do: 1. Drier air can squash thunderstorms and tropical systems:One of the reasons we don't start watching the stretch between Africa and the Caribbean for tropical activity in June and July is because of this dust. The dust is not only dry but also has a sinking motion in areas that it passes through. This is not favorable for thunderstorm growth. Tropical waves often have a rough time developing if they are enshrouded by the Saharan air layer. Dust can also zap other ingredients needed for tropical development. Saharan air can reflect sunlight before it can reach the Atlantic, slightly cooling the oceans. Stronger winds within the SAL also increase wind shear, which can either tilt or rip apart a tropical system. But as the dust and wind shear weaken ocean warmth will peak in the late summer months. That's why the heart of the hurricane season is from late August into October, during which 82% of a hurricane season's activity usually takes place. This same thunderstorm-squashing idea that is found in the tropics is also found when the dust gets closer to the Southeast. When dust is passing through, there is often a multiday drop in rain chances until the dust is gone. In Florida, this means there is a break in the rainy season, but that's not always good news. This pause in sea breeze thunderstorms allows Florida's typical high temperature of 90-92 degrees to rise by a few degrees without much of a drop in surface humidity. This can make it even more uncomfortable to be outside. Be sure to take breaks and keep hydrated. Dust can diminish air quality:When a Saharan Air Layer arrives, you'll typically notice hazier skies than usual for a summer day. This is your first signal that you may want to check the air quality. Health experts say the dust particles could trigger symptoms similar to springtime allergies or cause respiratory irritation for people with conditions like asthma or emphysema. If you are susceptible to breathing issues, you may want to limit your time outdoors or take a mask with you if you have to leave your home. 3. Particles can make for more beautiful sunrises and sunsets:If the air quality in your area isn't too bad, head outside early or late in the day. If you know that dust is overhead, you'll probably notice that your sunrises and sunsets appear more orange or reddish. This can make for some spectacular photos.
