In fact, it's got such a devoted fan base that Warner Bros.rereleased it in theatersin September 2023 to celebrate the studio's 100-year anniversary. Though persistent sequel rumors remain unsubstantiated,Ke Huy Quanhas said he would "be open" to stepping back into the character if the opportunity arose. "There was not one [script] that I felt could live up to what the original was,"he explained in 2023."Sadly, we lost the captain of our ship [directorRichard Donner], who I love dearly, and I really don't know if there will beGoonies 2, but I would be open to reliving that character if there is that opportunity."
