
A Domino's Pizza store in Utah exploded after a car crashed into the restaurant's building and ruptured a gas line. The incident occurred on the night of July 5 in Herriman, a city about 30 minutes southwest of Salt Lake City, as a "devastating" three-car accident "sent one vehicle off the roadway and into a building, rupturing a gas line and igniting a massive fire,"Unified Fire Authority, Utah's largest fire agency, said in a post on social media. The car's driver and passenger were rescued from the "burning vehicle just moments before it was engulfed in flames," by two "courageous bystanders" who "risked their lives," the agency said, adding that as soon as fire suppression efforts began, "a powerful explosion" occurred, destroying one business and causing significant damage to two others. Video footage from the incident showed firefighters working to put out the flames at the commercial building when an explosion was heard followed by debris flying in the air. While three people were transported to a local hospital, no firefighters or law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, the agency said. The condition of the individuals taken to the hospital is not known. Authorities issued anevacuation orderin the neighborhood shortly after the crash, and residents were instructed to "avoid the area to allow emergency crews full access." It was later lifted in the early hours of July 6 after the resulting natural-gas leak was contained,"Herriman City said in a press release. Unified Fire Authority said over 60 firefighters worked in unison to "battle the intense blaze." "We are grateful for the bravery of the bystanders and the swift, unified response from all emergency personnel," the fire authority said. While authorities did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for an update on the incident, a city of Riverton spokespersontold CBS Newsno one was in the building at the time of the crash. Besides Domino's, the commercial building also housed Jimmy John's. Additional details on what led to the crash were not immediately available. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, Herriman city said, adding the Riverton Police Department is leading the investigation.
