The gunman officials saykilled two women and wounded three others in Kentuckyon Sunday has been identified as 47-year-old Guy House, according to the Lexington Police Department. Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said House shot a Kentucky State Police trooper on Terminal Drive at Blue Grass Airport at 11:36 a.m. The trooper pulled over a vehicle over that House was in along with other occupants after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area. "One of the individuals presented a firearm and shot our trooper, which resulted in very serious injuries," Kentucky State Trooper spokesperson Matt Sudduth said in a news briefing Monday afternoon. The other occupants of the vehicle were not involved in the shooting and did not flee the scene, Sudduth added. The trooper is in stable condition at a local hospital, according to Sudduth. House then allegedly fled the area and stole a vehicle, Sudduth said. "Around 12:30 in the afternoon, Lexington Police Department officers located that stolen vehicle at the Richmond Road Baptist Church," Sudduth said. "Officers approached the church where they encountered Mr. House in a rear parking lot area, as well as multiple victims with apparent gunshot wounds." House shot four people at the church before the officers' arrival, Sudduth said. At least three officers discharged their weapons, killing House. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn. Two women, Beverly Gumm, 72, and her daughter, Christina Combs, 34, were pronounced dead on the scene, according to Kentucky State Police. Gumm was married to the church's pastor, public records indicate. The other victims were identified as two males who are in critical condition and are being treated at a local hospital. Weathers would not identify the victims "out of respect for the victims and their families." Weathers said that preliminary information indicates House "may have had a connection to the individuals at the church," but a motivation for the shootings remains unclear. According to public records and social media, House had a relationship with Angel Rutherford, who is Gumm's daughter and Combs' sister. It is not clear what the status of their relationship was at the time of the shootings. House, who is from Lexington, had active arrest warrants, according to Sudduth. Sudduth said he "can't speculate" as to how House was in possession of a gun. "Yesterday's violence was a tragedy, and it impacted many people in our community from the loss of Ms. Gumm and Ms. Combs, the other victims who sustained injuries, including a Kentucky State trooper, their families, the Richmond Baptist Church family, and many others," Weathers said at a news briefing Monday afternoon. "We join them and the community to mourn this tragedy." Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear called the shooting "devastating" at an unrelated event Monday afternoon. "The idea that you can be at church on a Sunday and be subjected to violence is antithetical to what our country is, and we all want to be praying for a much better world," Beshear said, adding that he is in touch with the wounded trooper's girlfriend. The investigation into the shootings are ongoing and being led by the Kentucky State Police.
