Who are those new faces on Saturday Night Live?

Five cast members were added to the SNL cast for its season 51 debut on Saturday: Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska. They join the returning Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline as the season's stable of featured players. (These players are generally promoted to the repertory cast if they are invited back for a third season.)

The featured players round out a 17-member cast that also includes Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Marcello Hernández, James Austin Johnson, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, and "Weekend Update" anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost.

Cast members who we won't see back this season are Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, and Devon Walker, plus Please Don't Destroy member John Higgins.

SNL boss Lorne Michaels recently noted his excitement in bringing in fresh talent to appeal to younger viewers.

"The show has always brought people in from different ages and different generations, and it's how it revives itself," he told Entertainment Tonight on the Emmys red carpet. "It's always hard when people leave, but there's a time for that. Our audience has always stayed relatively young, and more so now with TikTok, and change is good. The people we're bringing in I'm really excited about."

Tommy Brennan

Juliet Farmer

Tommy Brennan

Tommy Brennan is a stand-up comic hailing from Saint Paul. He was selected as the Just for Laughs New Face of Comedy in 2023 and made his TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this summer. As a touring comic, Brennan has opened for Nikki Glaser, Taylor Tomlinson, and the late Louie Anderson.

Brennan is known for his signature style of colorful windbreakers and comedy, focusing on growing up in the Midwest in a family of eight children with a doctor for a father, despite having no health insurance himself. The latter of which will hopefully no longer be an issue.

Jeremy Culhane

Ellyn Jameson

Jeremy Culhane

Jeremy Culhane is an actor and improv comedian from Altadena, Calif. He's trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade and the Groundlings, two comedy schools known for being SNL pipelines.

Culhane has appeared on American Vandal, the Heathers TV reboot, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, and is a regular on comedy streamer Dropout TV (formerly CollegeHumor). He also cohosts the Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists podcast, which features comedians performing improvised Hollywood roundtable-style interviews.

Ben Marshall

Andrew Thomas

Ben Marshall

Recent Saturday Night Live viewers are already familiar with Ben Marshall. He's been a member of the show's writing staff since 2021 and has appeared many times throughout the last four seasons as part of comedy trio Please Don't Destroy (along with Martin Herlihy and John Higgins). Several of the group's digital shorts have racked up millions of views on the SNL YouTube account, including "Three Sad Virgins" with Pete Davidson and Taylor Swift and "First Class" featuring Bad Bunny and Scarlett Johansson from the season 50 finale.

The group also wrote and starred in the 2023 Peacock feature Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain. The lanky redhead also recently appeared in an episode of Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne.

Kam Patterson

Jim Cambridge

Kam Patterson

Kam Patterson is a stand-up comedian from Orlando, who relocated to Austin, where his career has taken off. Patterson is a regular on controversial comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's "anti-woke" podcast Kill Tony, and has pushed buttons with his own views and use of gay slurs and the R-word in his jokes.

Patterson has also declared himself a Trump supporter, prompted by the assassination attempt. The 26-year-old is known for his nerve on stage, like the time he high-fived Tucker Carlson, and then told the conservative political commentator, "My grandma hates you n---a."

Patterson's hiring is seen as an attempt to tap into a potential new audience for the traditionally more left-leaning sketch show, in the same vein as inviting Shane Gillis back to host (twice) after firing him from the cast for his own use of slurs, something Michaels has said he was forced to do against his will.

Like his new costars Marshall and Hernandez, Patterson has a role in Netflix's upcoming 72 Hours, starring Kevin Hart and Teyana Taylor. He'll also appear in Busboys from SNL alum David Spade.

Veronika Slowikowska

Cobey Arner

Veronika Slowikowska

Veronika Slowikowska is a Canadian actress and comedian who brings with her a large social media following. She regularly goes viral on TikTok and Instagram for quirky skits with comedy partner Kyle Chase, with whom she also hosts the Nevermind podcast.

Slowikowska also has a fairly lengthy acting resume, including roles on Gillis'Tires, What We Do in the Shadows, and Poker Face.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
