His legacy lived on in 2022'sWakanda Forever, where T'Challa's sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) became the next Black Panther. In December 2024, Marvel Studios presidentKevin Feigeannounced that a thirdBlack Panthermovie was officially in development. So with the film officially happening, what do fans know so far about the upcoming installment? Here's everything to know aboutBlack Panther 3, including the cast, director and more. At the end of 2022'sWakanda Forever, Shuri (Wright) has become the new Black Panther, following in her brother's footsteps. In a surprising move, Shuri decides to leave Wakanda and give up her royal title. Jabari Tribe leader M'Baku (Winston Duke) steps forward, calling for a challenge to the throne. Shuri visits Nakia (Lupito Nyong'o) in Haiti, and on the beach Shuri has a ceremonial burning of the robe she wore to her brother's funeral. Nakia joins Shuri and introduces her to her son, Toussaint, the child of T'Challa, whom Nakia has been raising "away from the pressure of the throne." With that reveal, the nextBlack Panthercould feature a fight between Toussaint and M'Baku for the future of the throne. During a November 2024 interview onAustralia Today, Washington revealed his involvement with the upcomingBlack Pantherwhen listing his upcoming projects. "[Director]Ryan Coogleris writing a part for me in the nextBlack Panther. After that, I'm going to do the film ofOthello,"theFencesstar said. "After that, I'm going to doKing Lear. After that, I'm going to retire." During the June 5 episode of the7PM in Brooklynpodcast, Cooglerconfirmedthat he has written a part for Washington in the upcoming sequel. The director told hostCarmelo Anthony, "Denzel is family at this point ... I've been trying to work with him since day one." He continued, "I think he's the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I've been talking to him about this for a long time." Wright, who became Black Panther inWakanda Forever, said that she was "manifesting" aBlack Panther 3in a January 2023 interview withVariety. "I think it's already in the works," she said. "We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup and [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab, so it's going to take a little while, but we're really excited for you guys to see that."
