For years, many fans wondered whether they might one day see a continuation of NBC's decade-defining mockumentary sitcom,The Office. Now, twelve years after the show's series finale premiere in 2013, it seems like that long fantasized dream will officially become a reality withThe Office's upcoming spinoff,The Paper. As with its original precursor,The Paperwill employ a mockumentary approach to the traditional sitcom format. Set in Toledo, Ohio, the series focuses on a once prominent Midwestern newspaper trying to establish its place in mass culture, all the while contending with the difficulties of the modern internet age. Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Tim Key and Alex Edelman, among many others, Peacock has just announced that the show will premiere on the streaming platform on September 4. In particular, Peacock will begin streaming the first four episodes ofThe Paperon that specific date. Following this, two new episodes of the show will arrive on Peacock every Thursday, with the season's finale scheduled to arrive on September 25 for a total of 10 episodes. While it's perhaps worth wondering how exactlyThe Paperwill tie in to the overall continuity ofThe Office,we do know that several cast and crew members will play a role in the new spinoff, both in front of and behind the camera. Oscar Nunez, for example, will reprise his role as Dunder Mifflin's beleaguered accountant Oscar Martinez on a recurring role onThe Paper. Ken Kwapis, who directed 13 episodes ofThe Officeand served as an executive producer on the series, will also direct the second episode ofThe Paper. Meanwhile, Paul Lieberstein -- best known for his role asThe Office's soft-spoken HR representative, Toby Flenderson, as well as a longtime writer for the show -- has provided the script forThe Paper's season finale.
