Richard Butler and his wife, Michelle, are charged with fraud after allegedly swindling families out of $60,000

According to police, parents paid registration fees for a baseball training program that later shut down and falsely claimed they were declaring bankruptcy

Butler previously played Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Devil Rays

A former Major League Baseball player is accused of defrauding families who signed up for his baseball training program.

Richard Butler, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 52, are both charged with fraud in Canadian court, according to Durham Regional Police.

Authorities said that parents had registered and paid for the Ontario Devil Rays baseball training program for the 2025-2026 season.

Between April and October 2025, police said, about $60,000 was deposited into the organization’s bank account. But the money was then allegedly transferred to bank accounts associated with Butler and his wife.

“Investigators allege the funds were not used for the training program and the services initially agreed upon were not provided by the Ontario Devil Rays organization,” Durham police said.

On Oct. 19, 2025, the families received an email claiming the organization was being dissolved because of financial hardship and that they were declaring bankruptcy.

As it turned out, police alleged no bankruptcy proceedings had been initiated and that the name of an attorney was used on the email without his permission.

In addition to fraud of over $5,000, Butler and Michelle are also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and uttering a forged document, per authorities.

Police said there could also potentially be more victims.

Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain Rejected an Invite to Golf With Trump, Says He Should Be ‘Put in Jail’: ‘I’m Not Amused by the Narcissism’

Nicko McBrain , the long-time drummer for heavy metal band Iron Maiden , recently admitted he’d been invited to play golf with Donald Trump, but turned down the offer because of his staunch anti-MAGA beliefs — and that the president and his “bunch of cronies,” in McBrain’s words, “should be put in jail.”

Like Trump, McBrain resides in Florida, and in a recent interview with the Telegraph , said a friend of his “who’s a massive Republican” asked, “‘Oh, do you want to come and play golf with us? With the president,’” said McBrain. “And I said, ‘You fucking what?’… and I just said, ‘No.’ No mate.” Related Stories ‘Bridgerton’ Spinoff, Centered on Lady Violet, Ordered by Netflix 'My Brilliant Career' Star Philippa Northeast Replaces Quintessa Swindell in Netflix Drama 'Feral' (EXCLUSIVE)

Charli D'Amelio Is 'Figuring Stuff Out' With Sister Dixie After Feud Rumors

Catherine Powell/Getty Images for MTV Tap Here To Add Us Magazine As A Trusted Source Charli D'Amelio is addressing rumors of a feud between her and her family, including sister Dixie D'Amelio .

"I mean, that's my sister," Charli, 22, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, October 21. "I'm going to love her till the day I die. But there are times where you're figuring stuff out."

Rumors have swirled for months that Charli is feuding with her parents , Marc and Heidi D'Amelio , as well as with Dixie, 25. The speculation began in March 2025 when Charli began the process of separating herself from the family's corporate entities, including D'Amelio Brands and D'Amelio Family LLC. Months later, fans noticed that Charli and her parents unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Back in May, gossip blog DeuxMoi reported the feud was over money, alleging Charli "discovered" millions of dollars had been removed from her accounts while her career was managed by her parents. Marc, 57, publicly denied the report.

"This is not true. We love Charli, but she is being manipulated, and I have the receipts," he said in an Instagram comment in June. "Over the last six years we have remained silent and never addressed gossip but the time has come to set the record straight."

In a second comment, he added, "She's always had a team in place, lawyers, business manager, manager, agent. We purposely set it up that way. Not sure if you know anything about our family, but we were doing fine before TikTok."

In a livestream, Marc claimed it had been "some time" since he had spoken to Charli and alleged they only communicated via her lawyer.

"He did tell me yesterday when I talked to him that she's doing fine," he added. "We're destroyed, man. We're freaking devastated. We want Charli back. We love her."

Marc continued, "Going through this process was never about money, it was always about having this crazy awesome experience with my family. As far as stealing money, if anything, I'm owed money."

Charli addressed the rumors of stolen money in her interview on Wednesday, telling THR , "No, they're not true. I wouldn't say that they stole my money."

After a long pause, she added, "I think we did a lot of things as a family."

Charli rose to fame in 2020 with her viral dance videos on TikTok. She and Dixie joined the now-defunct Hype House before leaving the content creation mansion and continuing their careers in Hollywood. The sisters and their parents later starred on The D'Amelio Show , which aired on Hulu for three seasons from 2021 to 2023. The family also launched multiple brands, including Be Happy Snacks, D'Amelio Footwear and 444 Capital.

"I'm taking the last few months of 2026 to work on getting to a place where I'm doing things I'm really proud of," she told THR . "Because of being told so often I didn't deserve where I was, I felt that way for a really long time. But I'm at the point now where I can see that, like, I've lived a pretty amazing life, and I'm getting what I feel is like my second chance to do this the way that I want to do it."

The mother of a toddler found alive in an Arizona hospital morgue in February more than five hours after he was pronounced dead said Wednesday she thought she heard him breathing when she hugged him goodbye.

But instead of listening to her gut, Alexus Fiordilino said, she believed the doctor who told her those were 18-month-old Vincent’s last gasps and that any further attempts to save him would just prolong his agony.

“As a mom you don’t want to hear that,” Fiordilino, 30, said in an interview. “I didn’t want him to suffer. It seemed to be they’d done everything they could. And then he called it.”

Fiordilino was referring to Dr. Aryan Toosi, who pronounced Vincent dead at 6:20 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona.

A little over five hours later, Fiordilino said, police were questioning her and her husband, Angelo, when a detective burst into the room and told them that a medical examiner’s employee who had come to collect Vincent’s body had discovered he was still alive.

“My husband and I just screamed in relief,” she said. “We were praising the Lord. We were crying. To go from hearing he was gone and then finding out he isn’t gone, it’s an unexplainable feeling.”

Fiordilino spoke out more than eight months after her son’s remarkable story of survival after he nearly drowned in the family swimming pool made national headlines and sparked multiple investigations into what happened on Feb. 8.

The Gilbert Police Department had recommended filing child abuse charges against both parents for losing track of Vincent while a Super Bowl party was going on at their residence.

“Both admitted to smoking marijuana the morning of the drowning,” the police report said.

But Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced in July that the Fiordilinos would not be charged.

Fiordilino’s lawyer, John Brewer, said he plans to file a formal complaint this week against Toosi and the hospital. He said a review of Vincent’s medical records shows that critical test results that Toosi cited to justify ending efforts to save the child were not completed until after the toddler was declared dead.

“The parents were faced with having to decide whether to keep trying to revive their son, and the doctor provided them with false information,” Brewer said. “That’s beyond a conscious disregard for human life.”

Brewer’s office turned its records over to the Gilbert Police Department, which said it forwarded everything to the state attorney general’s office for review. The AG’s office said Wednesday that it has not made a decision to review this case.

Toosi’s lawyer, Scott Holden, released a statement in response.

“Dr. Toosi’s thoughts are with the young patient and family, and he wishes the child continued healing and recovery,” it said. “His commitment to delivering high-quality care has always been rooted in a desire to provide healing, safety and comfort to his community.”

Meanwhile, the hospital called the situation “heartbreaking” in a statement.

“Out of respect for the patient’s privacy, we cannot share any information and we are unable to comment on those involved in patient care,” it said. “Patient safety and exceptional care are our highest priorities.”

Asked how Vincent is doing now, Fiordilino said, “He’s getting better.”

Brewer said that while the boy is home with his family, he has many health challenges.

“Vincent is severely brain-injured,” he said. “He can’t swallow. He seizes up. He can’t sit up on his own or crawl.”

The tragic turn of events began around 5:38 p.m. Feb. 8 with a 911 call for help after Vincent was found floating face down in the family pool and a relative tried to revive him by performing CPR, according to a police report obtained by NBC affiliate KPNX of Phoenix.

Vincent was rushed to the emergency room at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, where an ER team that included Toosi took over the effort to save him.

At 6:13 p.m., according to the report, Toosi went out to deliver bad news to the boy’s parents.

“As long as there are no objections, I’d like to call time of death,” Toosi said, according to the report.

Then, “at approximately 18:20 hours, Dr. Toosi called the time of death and requested a moment of silence.”

Just as Fiordilino told NBC News, police officers who had been in the ER said in the report that the child still appeared to be gasping for breath after he was declared dead.

A detective reported then hearing “another audible gasp” at around 7:18 p.m. as the ER workers were preparing to move Vincent from the trauma room to the “cold room” that serves as the hospital’s morgue and where the temperature is set at 36 to 39 degrees.

The same detective said that when he returned to photograph the body an hour later, he “again observed what appeared to be a gasp or air release.”

“The nurse again stated it was agonal breathing and explained it was due to compressions, oxygen, and possible pressure applied by family members while saying goodbye,” the report says.

And at 7:23 p.m., “the cold room door was closed,” the report says.

More than four hours later, when the medical examiner’s team arrived at 11:52 p.m. to retrieve the boy, “he was found breathing,” the report says.

“The family was notified immediately,” and the boy was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Fiordilino said that when she saw her son again in the pediatric intensive care unit, “he was hooked up to all kinds of monitors and things.”

“He looked like a different baby,” she said. “It’s something I hope no other parent has to live through.”
