Every day, Lolli stands at the front of her kennel and smiles at the people walking by. Not a goofy, tongue-out kind of smile. Instead, a soft, full-faced look that says, “I see you. Please see me back.” The beautiful pit bull has so much love to give, but she is still waiting for someone to see her as more than her breed.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and now is the time to shine a light on overlooked dogs. Lolli is one of them, and her look says pure love.

Your Chance to Change a Dog’s Life

Rachel, known online as @rachelishaa, is a Philadelphia-based animal advocate who regularly visits local shelters to spotlight dogs that most people pass by. Recently, she walked into the Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) and asked for a dog with zero applications. The staff pointed her toward Lolli.

When Rachel reached her kennel, Lolli was not the smiling dog the staff had described. She was sad—the kind of sadness you see in a dog who has stopped expecting anything good to happen. However, the moment Rachel crouched down and gave her attention, Lolli’s demeanor changed. She leaned in, pressed her whole body against Rachel, and just stayed there, soaking up every second of contact.

Then came the smile, one that takes over a dog’s entire face with pure, unguarded love.

All Lolli Wants Is a Hug

Lolli’s routine is heartbreaking to imagine. She waits by her kennel door, watching people pass by, hoping someone will stop for her. Day after day, that moment of recognition never comes.

It’s no surprise Lolli completely glued herself to Rachel. That’s the kind of love pit bulls give. Some dogs ask for affection with their whole bodies, leaning into a person and staying as close as they can. Lolli deserves the chance to do that with someone who will come back for her every day.

On Facebook, fans cheered for her in the comments. “Since my foster fail, I love pit bulls. They only want to love and be loved,” one person shared.

“We adopted a pittie and she has been the best girl ever,” another person added. “All she wants is loves and to be with us all the time. My girl is a walking heart full of love.”

Despite their undeserved bad reputation, pit bulls are some of the most lovable and affectionate dogs.

How to Adopt Lolli

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and dogs like Lolli are the reason why. She doesn’t need training to love people; she just needs one person to stop by her kennel.

The shelter has posted several behavioral updates about her time in the playground. “Very sweet and social girl. Easy to leash and walk. She is jumpy but gentle about it,” one update reads. Another says, “Very sweet social girl! Came right out of kennel after leashing. Allowed all restraint and gave belly when trying to take PCR. Loves belly rubs and attention.”

Lolli (#ACCT-A-262995) is available for adoption at ACCT Philly, located at 111 W. Hunting Park Ave. in Philadelphia. For more information, call 267-385-3800 or visit acctphilly.org. You can also fill out an adoption application online.
