Jenna Ortega debuted a bold brunette bob on the cover of Vogue.

The cover shoot and accompanying interview were released on October 22, and the actress’s hair transformation was front and center throughout the shoot.

Ortega’s latest role is in Klara and the Sun, a film out on October 23.

On recent red carpets promoting her forthcoming film Klara and the Sun, Jenna Ortega’s long brunette hair has hit mid-back length. But for her new Vogue cover story released on October 22, Ortega’s hair is fashioned into a chic bob as she models looks from Dior, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, and more.

The actress’s hairstyle for her latest cover shoot seems to mirror her titular role as Klara in the movie, out on October 23. In a trailer for the film, she sported a shaggy auburn bob—her shortest, lightest hairstyle in years.

In her Vogue interview, Ortega opens up about being a young actress, landing the lead in the Disney Channel sitcom Stuck in the Middle at a tender 12 years old. While she admitted she “wanted to do it so desperately,” now, at 24 years old, “I don’t think I would start someone that young,” she said.

Ortega elaborated that there should be “less of a workhorse expectation put on these kids,” noting that it’s a “very susceptible environment for things to get confused” and adding that there was “no one really showing you the ropes.”

Her role in Wednesday, she added, “has had such a profound impact on my life. It’ll always be something people think of when they see me.” As she chooses projects now, she told Vogue, “I want to be in environments that are stimulating and productive, but also just telling stories that I would want to watch.”

In Klara and the Sun, Ortega stars alongside Natasha Lyonne and Amy Adams and plays an android, also known as an “Artificial Friend,” selected to become a young girl’s companion. As he chooses roles, “I think I have a little more understanding of myself and what I need to work,” Ortega told Vogue, noting that, “I would love to slow down a bit.” She admitted, though, that she does “think I’m somebody who always has to be moving.” The interview also touched on her life outside of work, with Ortega telling the publication, “I don’t think I’ll ever approach that part of my life, my personal life, with the public.”

Ortega told People of Klara and the Sun, “I’m playing a robot, and it’s a dystopian future where no one knows what the future looks like.” In an interview with Esquire, she told the outlet that she doesn’t consider any of her many projects “a mistake,” adding, “Good or bad, you’re going to learn from it.”

“I’ve gotten such a better understanding of who I am as a person and what I want from the world,” she continued. “I wouldn’t have been able to get that understanding of my position had I not gone through phases of trial and error.”

The same could be said for her hair. On recent red carpets, Ortega has been sporting a maple cinnamon hair color, a lighter, more auburn shade than she’s had in the past. The actress largely works with her go-to hairstylist, Cesar Deleon Ramirez, and he previously told Hypebae, “Jenna is highly involved. She gives me the freedom to design and present her with look ideas, then she adds her input to help me conceptualize the look to fit her vision.”

“It’s very collaborative between the whole hair, makeup, and styling team,” Ramirez added. “It’s as if we are collaborating on a sculpture together, and we each add our inspiration and marry it all together. We have a great team that I’m extremely inspired by, and Jenna has a lot of input, which is very helpful.”

Though speaking about her work, something she told Esquire might also be about her hair, too: “I’ve been in this experimental phase,” Ortega said, adding, “I’ve seen some things now. I’ve tried some things. Now it’s important to me to be focused on stories and characters that I feel truly connected to.”
