Everything We Know About The ‘Fourth Wing’ TV Show So Far

Not long after Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing took the reading world by storm when it arrived in May 2023, the book was optioned for a television series adaptation. The news came just before the second book in The Empyrean series Iron Flame published in November 2023.

The show remains in early stages of development, but progress has been made since the announcement of the adaptation, the biggest being that the project was officially handed a series order in May 2026.

Read on for everything we know about the ‘Fourth Wing’ TV series: Watch on Deadline

Who is behind the adaptation of Fourth Wing into a show?

Amazon MGM Studios optioned the rights to the first book in Rebecca Yarros’ The Empyrean series, and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society production company will produce the series alongside Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films and Premediated Productions. Joy serves as executive producer, and she will direct the pilot episode.

Does the Fourth Wing TV series have a showrunner yet?

Deadline learned in late September that Wednesday Season 2 executive producer Meredith Averill was in final negotiations to join the series adaptation as writer and executive producer. She has since been confirmed as showrunner in the latest update from Amazon’s 2026 Upfronts presentation .

Moira Walley-Beckett ( Breaking Bad, Anne with an E ) was originally tapped as showrunner of the series, but then Agatha All Along and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer signed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios and entered discussions to helm the series as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

Fourth Wing follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she leaves the life of a Scribe behind at her mother’s demand that she become a dragon rider. At the order of her mother, who is a General in the military of Navarre, Violet enters the brutal ranks of Basgiath War College, which trains up-and-coming riders through the Graduate or Die method.

In the books, Violet first looks to her old friend Dain Aetos when she gets into Basgiath, but the mysterious Xaden Riorson also has a smoldering gaze locked on her constantly. Violet also has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which author Rebecca Yarros has. The condition affects the body’s connective tissue.

Who will play Violet and Xaden in the Fourth Wing TV series?

Esther McGregor will portray the 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail , and Emilio Sakraya will portray Xaden in the series.

Yes, Iron Flame continues the saga, and it arrived the same year as Fourth Wing . The book series has a five-book arc planned, and the third installment, Onyx Storm arrived on January 21, 2025. What seems to be an in-between novella installment of sorts that will arrive before the fourth book in Yarros’ quintet has been teased by the author herself after readers got past her stealth mode and found it through pre-order.

Will there be separate seasons after Fourth Wing ?

Deadline was told that developing a separate installment based on each book in the series is possible, should the first season be successful.

The Notorious B.I.G. ‘s legacy is being carried on by his two kids: T’yanna and C.J.

The late rapper, whose real name was Christopher George Latore Wallace, had daughter T’yanna in 1993 with ex-girlfriend Jan Jackson and son Christopher Jordan in 1996 with wife Faith Evans . Six months after welcoming his second child, the artist was killed in a drive-by shooting at age 24 in 1997.

Today, both T’yanna and C.J. work with the Biggie Estate to honor their dad and keep his name alive, either by referencing him in their own work or by attending events honoring him, like the orchestral tribute New York City’s Lincoln Center hosted for their dad in 2022.

“ He had a global legacy ,” C.J. told PEOPLE of his father in March 2022. “My dad reached across every corner of this world. I see the reaction that I get when people recognize me, and the DMs I get on Instagram and on Twitter show me that even people younger than me have been inspired by my dad. It’s crazy.”

In 2017, C.J. spoke at the Billboard Music Awards on behalf of himself and T’yanna to celebrate what would have been their dad’s 45th birthday.

“I know my father is looking down on all of us tonight,” he said in his speech . “All of this love and support, my sister and I carry on his name with tremendous pride, and [I] live my life by his words.”

After B.I.G.’s mother, Violetta Wallace, died in February 2025, Page Six reported that both C.J. and T’yanna attended her celebration of life the following month.

Here’s everything to know about The Notorious B.I.G.’s kids: T’yanna and C.J.

Biggie and his high school sweetheart, Jackson, welcomed their daughter, T’yanna Wallace, on Aug. 10, 1993.

T’yanna proved to be a big inspiration for her dad’s music, with the rapper mentioning her in several of his songs, most notably his 1994 single “ Juicy .”

“To all the people that lived above the buildings that I was hustlin’ in front of, called the police on me when I was just tryin’ to make some money to feed my daughter,” he rapped on the hit song.

She started her own brand, Notoriouss Clothing , while she was studying at Penn State University, as a nod to her late father.

“The Wallace name is big, I’m not gonna lie ... I try to just continue the legacy. That’s why I started my clothing line,” she told MusicXclusives TV in 2016. “I’m not into music, I don’t rap or anything, so I was like, let me do something that I love, dedicated to him.”

B.I.G.’s firstborn also opened The Biggie Experience in March 2024 to give fans an immersive look into her father’s life and impact, including reimaginings of his home.

“I always wanted to be the person who says, ‘OK, my dad’s not here anymore, but I know how special he is.’ So, I want to continue his legacy in any way possible,” T’yanna told Forbes . “I always wanted his legacy to be available to his fans.”

T’yanna had the support of her brother, C.J., when opening the exhibit. In May 2022, the sister and brother attended an event in N.Y.C. put on by the Biggie Estate, lighting the Empire State Building. “We’re always doing stuff together; that’s our biggest thing. We’re each other’s biggest supporters,” she said to the magazine.

The elder Wallace sibling now lives in the Big Apple with her daughter , whom she wants to feel connected to her late dad.

“I have my daughter, and I want her to know how special her grandfather is. I want her to understand how influential he is. The train has to keep going because I want her to see how much he accomplished at such a young age,” T’yanna explained to Forbes . “I won’t stop continuing his legacy because I want my daughter to see that.”

Biggie and singer Evans welcomed their son, Christopher Jordan Wallace, on Oct. 19, 1996.

C.J. is named after his late father and has gone by the nicknames Lil Biggie and Lil Biggie Smalls in a nod to one of his father’s nicknames.

Though B.I.G. was murdered less than a year after C.J. was born, the rapper’s son still takes after his famous father.

“I have no memory of my dad, but I’ve been told so many stories about him and how much we are similar,” he told PEOPLE in 2022.

C.J. even played a young version of his dad in the 2009 biopic Notorious , and working on the film inspired a love of movies and aspirations to direct.

“I’m very interested in creating a new story — a story that’s separate from Notorious B.I.G.,” he continued. “Let’s tell the Christopher George Latore Wallace story.”

C.J. owns a lifestyle company called Frank White, named after one of his dad’s aliases. Biggie’s secondborn also started the Think BIG initiative , which advocates for cannabis legalization and criminal justice reform.

Through his businesses, C.J. hopes to further his dad’s legacy. “It’s why I’m doing Think BIG and all of these different things to really keep [his] name alive and continue to take it to new heights,” he told PEOPLE in 2020.

Veterinarian Left 'Multiple' Notes Before Killing Family in Murder-Suicide

Stephen Maturen/Getty Images Tap Here To Add Us Magazine As A Trusted Source Authorities identified a veterinarian as the killer in a murder-suicide after he fatally shot his elderly parents, his son and his girlfriend and he left "multiple suicide notes."

Bryan Schmidt shot his parents, Rebecca Schmidt and James Schmidt , his son, Maclaine Schmidt , and his longtime girlfriend, Nicole Heiser , at the home he shared with his parents in Mundelein, Illinois, on Sunday, October 18.

After killing his victims, Bryan, 51, then died by suicide, according to the coroner's report viewed by CBS News .

Police said that "multiple suicide notes" were "left by Bryan on scene and in his vehicle."

Authorities have not revealed what the notes said or whether there was a possible motive in the killings, though they did say they are combing through a "significant amount" of evidence as they work to determine what happened.

Bryan, who ran the Northern Illinois Cat Clinic in Libertyville, did not have a criminal history and police had never been called to the house prior to the murder-suicide.

Authorities said they believe the killings took place sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Neighbors previously said that they heard gunshots, which they believed were firecrackers that were set off ahead of the Chicago Bears game that day.

The bodies of Rebecca, 77, James, 80, Maclaine, 22, Heiser, 37, and Bryan were found just before midnight on Sunday after the killer's sister, Kimberly Schmidt , called police to request a welfare check when she had not heard from her parents.

Following the tragedy, police offered their condolences to the victims' relatives and all those impacted by the murder-suicide.

"The Mundelein Police Department extends its condolences to the victims' loved ones and recognizes the impact this tragedy has had on our community. We ask the public to respect the privacy of the families during this difficult time," the department said in a statement.

Several neighbors were left in shock over the killings, as the neighborhood is known for being generally safe.

"It's a really safe, small town, so hearing this, five people dying, it's kind of concerning," neighbor Pavli Ibarra told WLS .

Meanwhile, other neighbors remembered Rebecca and James as "very quiet people" who were always kind to others.

"She was a spry, retired veterinarian," one neighbor told NBC5 of Rebecca. "She was a friendly person. She'd wave to people. She'd have conversations with all kinds of neighbors."

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) confirmed Oct. 21 that a 35-year-old record for channel catfish has been broken.

David Taylor Jr., 44, of Munhall in Allegheny County, caught a 36.2-pound channel catfish in the Allegheny River below the Highland Park Lock and Dam, near Sixmile Island in Sharpsburg. The fish is 42 inches long and has a girth that spans 26 inches around.

The fish beat the previous record by 9 ounces. That mark was set in 1991 by by Austine E. Roth III of Bowmanstown. He reeled in a 35-pound, 3-ounce fish from the Lehigh Canal in Northampton County.

First story on record breaking catfish: Angler reels in monster catch that may break Pennsylvania state record

Waterways Conservation Officer Abigail Luteri monitored the official weighing of the fish Oct. 4 at Goodman’s Bait and Tackle in Ford City and confirmed the weight.

Both Luteri and Taylor filled out the appropriate documentation for the fish to be reviewed by the PFBC for the state record.

He caught the fish on a piece of cut mooneye, a fish that he caught earlier in the river. He was participating in the Tri-State Hawg Hunters tournament with his friend, Alex Atkinson, of Rillton (Sewickley Township), Westmoreland County, when the heavy fish took his bait.

The fish was released back into the Allegheny River for another angler to enjoy.

When he received the official word this week from the PFBC, he said, "to be honest, I was speechless."

He's been fishing for decades and never thought he would catch a state record. "It's a dream come true. I'm excited, but at the same time I'm speechless," he said in an Oct. 21 telephone interview.

With the advance reporting on his fish being considered for the record, he said he's been receiving good feedback and congratulations on his catch. "I'm already being stopped in public. People are recognizing me from the picture. I'm very thankful for this opportunity to have this happen."

He's hoping this new record inspires young people to take up the sport and as he likes to help children catch fish whenever he can. "I hope it triggers that young little boy and little girl to fish in the future," he said.

“Everything worked out in the end, and it feels incredible,” Taylor said in the agency’s announcement of the new record. “I want to thank my friend, Alex, the bait shops, and Officer Luteri for their help. Honestly, I’ve always dreamed of catching a state record, but I thought it would be a flathead catfish because we catch so many big ones out here in Pittsburgh. So, to catch a channel catfish that size? That just doesn’t happen. It just goes to show, you never know what’s on the other side of that hook. It could be just another fish, or it could be life changing. My advice to other anglers is to pay attention to your tackle and have confidence in your gear. Always make sure your line is strong and hooks are sharp for a moment like this.”

In an Oct. 7 interview, he said “If anything happens from this being recognized as a state record catfish, I’d like to bring back something to the community. If this can promote kids to go fishing, I would love to do that.

“If they can say the state record holder is going to be at a tournament and it can draw some people in to possibly see pictures and meet me, if I can get a fishing rod into a kid’s hands, that makes everything worthwhile and makes this a success,” he said. He's also planning to have a replica mount to preserve the memory of that evening.
