Philadelphia Eagles Announce Major Jalen Hurts News After Blood Clot Diagnosis

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles yells as he takes the field before a game against the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field on September 13, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Emilee Chinn/Getty Images Tap Here To Add Us Magazine As A Trusted Source Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will be out of action for at least a month after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf , the team announced on Saturday, October 17.

Hurts, 28, was placed on injured reserve on Saturday afternoon and will miss at least the next four games, including the team's showdown with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 18.

Backup quarterback Tanner McKee is set to step up in Hurts' absence .

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the team's decision to place Hurts on injured reserve came after consultations with multiple doctors.

Fox Sports' reporter Jay Glazer added additional context during Fox NFL Sunday .

"As they meet with more doctors and get more information, that's how they're making this decision," Glazer, 56, explained. "At first the blood clot, it was superficial. It wasn't moving around. But once it changed and that blood clot started moving, you do not mess around with a moving blood clot. That could be a life or death situation."

Glazer continued, "The only way for Jalen Hurts to come back — if he can come back this season — is that blood clot needs to be completely melted. They need to have several scans to make sure it's completely gone. Because if it's not and it floats up to the wrong areas, it could be very, very dangerous. It's a real life thing for Jalen Hurts. This is not a football situation."

The Eagles announced Hurts' diagnosis with a statement released via social media on Thursday, October 15.

"On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf," the team said. "He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday."

The Eagles lost to the Rams, 24-20, in Philadelphia on October 4.

"On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report," the Eagles continued. "Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team's flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play."

Philadelphia lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 19-17, at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, October 11.

"Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia," the team said. "Jalen played without limitation in the game Sunday, received treatment on Monday and Tuesday, and practiced in full on Wednesday, as reflected in the practice report. Throughout our time in London and this week, we have remained in communication with the league office regarding the matter."

"Movement in the small blood clot" was discovered during a follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday, October 14.

"His health and safety are our highest priority," the Eagles concluded.

The earliest Hurts is eligible to return to the lineup is November 22 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Eric Dane Recalls 1st ALS Symptoms in Posthumous Memoir Excerpt

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for Prime Video Tap Here To Add Us Magazine As A Trusted Source Eric Dane detailed the early signs of his ALS diagnosis in his memoir, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments , to be released nearly nine months after his death.

"I'm eating sushi with my kids and suddenly I can't work the chopsticks with my right hand. My hand tingles, and then my fingers feel numb," Dane wrote of his symptoms first showing up on January 7, 2024, per a book excerpt published by People on Sunday, October 18. "Some kind of weird nerve thing, I think. I shake it off. I'm probably texting too much. Three weeks later, it happens again, only worse. I can't grip the chopsticks at all."

After nine months seeking answers, Dane was diagnosed with ALS. The Euphoria actor immediately sought support from then-estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart . (Gayheart withdrew her petition for divorce amid Dane's ALS battle, which he publicly confirmed in April 2025.)

"We were married for 14 years, grew apart, filed for divorce, but never got around to signing the papers," he recalled in the book passage of Gayheart, now 55. "We've since stayed close, coparenting, going on vacations as a family, spending time together and now we talk every day. I say to Rebecca on the phone, 'It's what we feared.' I don't remember a single word I said after that."

Dane continued, "I remember only feeling a violent impact, like getting the wind knocked out of me, and Rebecca wailing on the other end of the phone, and then I really lose it, and my sobs make my body shudder, and I hear her words pouring out amid her tears, 'I'm here, we'll fight this together, I'm not going anywhere.'"

Dane, who shared daughters Billie and Georgia with the Jawbreaker actress , immediately pledged to fight the disease .

"I'm going to take this on. I'm going to fight. I'm going to show my girls how to walk through this life with grace and dignity, no matter what," he penned. " I am going to FIGHT. This has become my purpose. My reason. This is now my job."

"With heavy hearts, we share that Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS," the Grey's Anatomy alum's family said in a statement shared with Us . "He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world."

The obituary added, "Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he's received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time."

My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments will be released Tuesday, November 3.

O.J. Simpson's associate may have played a role in the aftermath of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpsonand Ron Goldman ... according to a new investigation by The New York Times.

The report focuses on Joseph "Joey" Ippolito, a convicted drug trafficker who reportedly had ties to Simpson and served as a government informant.

U.S. Department of Justice

Ippolito's brother, Sam, claimed to The Times Joey came home the night of the 1994 murders with blood on his hands and a heavy bag.

According to the report, after Joey returned home he allegedly stuffed his clothes into the bag and asked Sam to get rid of it while he showered -- with Sam telling the times he tossed the bag into a dumpster near a construction site along Doheny Drive.

Sam never established what was inside the bag and the defense nor the prosecution called on Joey or his brother to testify as a witness in the murder case.

The Times also examined federal records suggesting Ippolito provided authorities with information about Simpson and the missing murder weapon, which was never recovered.

However, the allegations remain unproven, and a former prosecutor who worked with Ippolito told the Times he did not believe Ippolito was involved in the killings.

As you know … Simpson was acquitted of the murders in 1995 but was later found liable for Nicole and Ron's deaths in a civil trial. He died in 2024.

Peacock announced it will be airing a two-part documentary called "OJ’s Accomplice" later this year ... all about various theories that have emerged in the Simpson case and whether members of OJ's inner circle may have been there that night.

The LAPD has told the Times the double-murder case remains open, due to no one being convicted in the murders, and the department remains committed to pursuing justice. A spokesman added detectives will investigate any new leads if additional evidence emerges.

Most footage of lion prides hunting zebras begins with careful stalking and ends with one animal running for its life. This clip skips the quiet part. A zebra charges straight into a cluster of lions, slips past one set of paws after another, and somehow emerges from the other side still moving.

The escape looks like a pure display of speed, but the more interesting answer is happening in the turns. The zebra never gives every lion a clean line to attack, and none of them gets the secure hold needed to drag it down. By the time the pride reorganizes, its intended meal is already headed toward open ground. The entire sequence is fast, messy, and a useful reminder that a hunt is not over merely because the predator gets close.

Watch the Zebra Escape the Lions BelowDid the Zebra Really Run Through the Pride?

That is exactly what the visible portion of the video shows. The zebra approaches from the left and passes between multiple lions rather than turning away from the group. Several cats pivot, swipe, or lunge as it moves through them, but the zebra remains upright and continues beyond the cluster. No lion appears to establish more than momentary contact.

What the short post does not provide is equally important. It does not identify the location, date, individual animals, or what happened before and after the edited sequence. The lions may already have been pursuing the zebra, or the animal may have been forced toward them by terrain or other members of the pride outside the frame. We can describe the extraordinary escape without inventing a backstory for it.

The decision to run through the group may look irrational from a human perspective, but a fleeing animal works with the openings available in that instant. Turning toward what appears to be a gap can be safer than making a wide, predictable arc with a lion already close behind. The zebra needed only one usable route. The lions needed one clean tackle, and none of them got it.

Can a Zebra Outrun a Lion?

Not as easily as the familiar internet speed charts suggest. A major field study published in Nature examined thousands of high-speed runs by lions, zebras, cheetahs, and impalas in Botswana. Within both predator–prey pairings, the predators demonstrated greater speed, acceleration, and deceleration capacity than the animals they hunted.

That does not make capture automatic. Lions depend on a short, explosive attack because sustained pursuit is costly, and their advantage matters only if they can convert it into contact. A zebra that spots the danger early may increase the gap, force the lion to spend energy, or reach terrain that breaks the pursuit. In this video, the zebra is already extremely close to several lions. Its immediate problem is not winning a straight race; it is surviving the first few strides.

Once it clears the group, the equation changes. Every extra stride gives the zebra more room to react and forces the lions to accelerate, align themselves, and close the distance again. Lions are fully capable of catching zebras, but they are not interested in spending unlimited energy on a low-probability chase. If the first attack fails and the gap keeps growing, abandoning the attempt can be the smarter choice.

Why Can Sharp Turns Save a Zebra?

The same Nature study found that escape can favor prey at lower speeds, when the fleeing animal has a wider range of possible directions available with each stride. At maximum speed, turning options narrow. A predator can anticipate the path and use its superior acceleration or braking ability to stay close. Slowing just enough to cut sharply creates uncertainty and may force the pursuer to overshoot.

That principle is visible throughout the clip. The zebra angles between lions, adjusts its path as they converge, and never settles into a long straight line until it has passed the immediate danger. Each cat has only a fraction of a second to judge where the zebra will be. One missed step also interferes with the next lion’s approach, turning the pride itself into a temporary obstacle course.

Speed still matters, of course. A slow animal would not survive long enough to use those openings. The escape comes from combining speed with timing, balance, and rapid changes of direction. That is why a list of supposed top speeds cannot predict the outcome of a real hunt. The fastest animal does not automatically win; it still has to be moving in the right direction.

How Do Lions Hunt as a Group?

Lions usually rely on stealth and a short attack rather than an extended chase.©GUDKOV ANDREY/Shutterstock.com

Female lions are the primary hunters in most prides, although males hunt as well. According to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, lions hunt cooperatively and pride mates often separate into smaller subgroups. Hunters may fan out, approach from different directions, or move prey toward another lion positioned to attack. The arrangement can resemble teamwork without functioning like a perfectly rehearsed play.

Group size does not guarantee success. Participation varies among individuals, and additional lions do not improve every kind of hunt equally. Zebras are large, alert, and dangerous enough to injure a predator with a kick. A lion has to get close, seize the animal, and help bring it down while avoiding hooves. In the clip, the pride gets the proximity it needs but never achieves the control required to finish the hunt.

What Do Lions Normally Eat?

Lions are carnivores that feed primarily on other animals. Across Africa, their prey commonly includes medium and large hoofed mammals. Zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, warthogs, and impala may all appear on the menu, depending on the habitat and which animals are locally available.

Lions also take smaller prey, scavenge carcasses, and steal kills from other carnivores when the opportunity arises. Their flexibility is useful because hunts fail regularly and success varies dramatically with prey, cover, weather, group composition, and the starting distance of the attack. This pride came remarkably close to a zebra and still ended the sequence empty-handed. For the zebra, “close” was good enough.
