I thought I was handling the Halloween ghost trend reasonably well. Dogs in little ghost sheets? Wonderful. Cats looking mildly offended by their spooky assignments? Excellent. Then somebody included a tiny chick, and now I’m emotionally attached to a haunted cotton ball.

This precious baby joins the trend with a miniature ghost look, becoming possibly the least intimidating Halloween visitor in history. There’s simply no way to be frightened of something you immediately want to protect from a light breeze. That’s a boo baby. I would like to appoint myself its honorary aunt.

The clip was shared by TikTok user @hemptana and features a tiny chick taking a turn at the Halloween ghost trend.

The idea is simple: people give their dogs or cats a ghost sheet costume and pair the video with Jack Stauber’s “Oh Klahoma.” The result is a parade of little pet ghosts that has made scrolling through Halloween videos extremely dangerous for my productivity.

But a chick? Nobody prepared me for a chick.

Dogs have enough size to suggest they might actually haunt a hallway. A cat could absolutely make you nervous in a dark room, especially if dinner was late. This baby looks like its entire haunting schedule would consist of one tiny appearance followed by a nap.

I’m imagining a haunted house employee introducing the newest member of the team. “This is our ghost. Please speak softly. It’s very little.”

I would buy a ticket immediately.

The ghost trend has found its tiniest little star

What makes this version so cute is the ridiculous difference between the assignment and the participant. We’re supposed to be getting spooky. Instead, we’ve got a baby chick that has somehow made Halloween even sweeter.

It’s the same reason I can never take a tiny dog’s big, serious bark seriously. The confidence is there. The scale is working against them. I respect the effort, but I’m still going to call them precious.

And this little chick deserves full credit for joining a trend usually filled with dogs and cats. There’s room in the ghost club for a feathered baby, especially one whose scare factor is approximately ZERO.

If you’re inspired to dress up your own pet, keep their comfort first and skip anything that obstructs breathing, vision or movement.

As for this baby, I’m declaring the haunting successful. It has occupied my thoughts, disrupted my workday and convinced me that “spooky little peep” is a perfectly reasonable term of affection.
