This Instagram video opens to show Maya relaxing on a cozy blanket when a very small kitten starts inching toward her. The German Shepherd stays stretched out on the bed, watching as Flea, a 1.5-pound foster kitten, approaches one careful little step at a time.

The text on the video by @mayaraisedmajor calls it sneaking up on an 80-pound dog, which makes the size difference apparent and so much funnier. Maya can see every little move, but Flea keeps going on in stealth mode anyway. When the foster kitten finally makes her move, she comes up just short of the dog’s fur.

Foster kitten named Flea finds a gentle friend in a large dog

Flea’s approach has earned plenty of love online, with the video receiving 15,000 likes. Watching her shuffle toward Maya is funny enough, especially when the much bigger German Shepherd keeps her eyes on the foster kitten the entire time.

Flea takes a few careful steps, pauses, and inches forward again. Then she suddenly launches herself at Maya, missing her target by barely an inch or two. The person filming lets out a snort of laughter, and honestly, it’s hard not to understand why. This kitten has committed to the mission, even if her aim needs a little work.

Maya doesn’t seem bothered by any of it. Flea nuzzles into the thick fur around her neck, and the next shot shows just how comfortable the two have become. Maya cuddles the little kitten close and gives her kisses while Flea settles beneath her. The playful sneak attack very soon turns into a sweet cuddle session.

The big dog’s patience and affection make the moment special, especially with such a tiny foster kitten trusting a dog so much larger than herself.

The comments have been having fun imagining what both animals might be thinking. One person joked that Maya was probably thinking, “That’s my baby,” while another predicted they’d become best friends. The creator even called Flea “Maya’s first baby before Scotty” in a reply to a viewer asking about Flea.
