One very intrepid French Bulldog is making waves on social media for riding up and down an escalator to his heart’s content.
While the dog clearly seems to be having a good time in this Instagram video, many viewers on social media are worried about the dangers that come with a dog riding an escalator.
This video starts with this little French Bulldog riding an escalator and then casually hopping off at the end and scurrying back onto the opposite escalator to ride his way back up, only to casually get off at the top again and get back on to the other escalator to ride his way down once again.
Some viewers and social media joked that this little Frenchie kept riding up and down on these escalators because they gave him an inventive opportunity to scratch himself: “He is using the brush line to scratch his butt, LOL.”
However, some social media viewers pointed out that this is actually incredibly dangerous: “The dog is a cutie, but total buzz kill here — an escalator is super dangerous for dogs. The collapsing steps can rip their toenails off. Sorry, but there are some dog parents who don’t know.”

Are Escalators Dangerous for Dogs?
Escalators are potentially dangerous for dogs because of their design and various moving parts. Anything caught in their mechanical teeth could be torn to pieces.
That’s why a lot of airports and transportation areas actually recommend carrying dogs instead of having them walk or stand on an escalator.
It’s also a good idea to know where a dog’s leash is at all times while they are on an escalator; that way, it does not get caught and sucked up by the escalator.
Additionally, knowing where the emergency stop button is on the escalator is a really smart idea; that way, in case something goes wrong, someone can stop the escalator immediately.
While the French Bulldog in this video was okay, there are some dogs that are not so lucky, getting caught or stuck in an escalator and ending up with serious injuries. Thankfully, that is not the case with this adorable little Frenchie.
