Savannah Guthrie missed her second Today appearance on October 12.

Her co-host Craig Melvin addressed Guthrie’s absence, but didn’t reveal why she wasn’t there.

Guthrie’s two-show absence comes amid the ongoing investigation into her missing mom, Nancy, which has now stretched into its eighth month.

Savannah Guthrie is taking some time off from the air as the ongoing search for her missing mom Nancy stretches past the eight-month mark. The Today show host was notably absent from her anchor’s chair on October 12, marking the second broadcast in a row she’d missed her usual morning spot.

Guthrie’s co-host Craig Melvin addressed Guthrie’s empty spot at the Today show desk on Monday as he led the segment with Today’s weekend co-anchor Laura Jarrett. Melvin revealed that Guthrie would be back on the job on October 13 after missing both Friday and Monday’s shows. However, he did not share a reason for Guthrie’s absence.

The TV personality—who took a two-week hiatus in September to film a forthcoming Wordle game show—was back at her anchor’s seat on Tuesday morning, marking her first show since October 8.

Guthrie has been staying busy with work as her family grapples with the ongoing disappearance of her mom, who is believed to have been kidnapped from her Tucson, Arizona home early in the morning on February 1. However, on September 15, the host renewed her plea to the public for any information relating to the whereabouts of the missing 84-year-old.

Also in September, Allison Janney revealed she was thinking of Guthrie and her family while accepting a win during the 2026 Emmy Awards. The Diplomat actress, who won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, told reporters, “I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through. It truly just took over. I don’t think I’m alone too. I think all of America was thinking about her.”

The next morning, Savannah told viewers on the September 15 broadcast that she was “so touched” by Janney’s shout-out. She said, “It was her moment of her triumph, and for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family.”

“I never let a moment pass if I get one to talk about my mom and how much we miss her and love her,” she continued. “And my whole family, my sister and my brother and I, and all of our extended families, are in such pain. We need help, so thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and for giving an opportunity to renew that call. We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye, that’s all.”
