Lucie Arnaz is celebrating 75 years of I Love Lucy by honoring her legendary parents, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz

The 75-year-old credits the show’s brilliant writing and timeless humor for its lasting success

She also emphasizes that it’s the sitcom’s message of love and forgiveness that keeps fans coming back

Lucie Arnaz is honoring her parents, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, as their beloved sitcom I Love Lucycelebrates its 75th anniversary.

The actress and singer, 75, recently took to Facebook to reshare two old interviews she felt best captured why the show continues to appeal to audiences decades later.

“I searched all day through the zillions of todays heartfelt I LOVE LUCY 75th Anniversary posts all over the Internet and I gotta say, this sums it up best for WHY the show has lasted 75 years,” Lucie captioned a clip of a 1997 interview with show writers Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Pugh Davis. “THE WRITING. The guy who says YES to those writers ideas and the genius of the lady who could pull those brilliant ideas off.”

“I raise my glass to that fantastic team of Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh Martin Davis, Jess Oppenheimer and my mother and father, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz,” Lucie continued. “I could not be more proud to be a part of this family.”

In the clip, the two writers explained that Desi had “a great sense of comedy,” while Ball “was a genius.” They noted that Ball was “magnificent once she got the script,” but they often floated their ideas by Desi, who they thought “never got enough credit.”

“He never said, ‘Are you crazy?’ or ‘That sounds expensive.’ He would pick up the phone and say, ‘Let me call the guys,’” Davis said of Desi.

“We had a great combination; he would pay for anything and she would do anything,” Carroll Jr. chimed in.

Lucie also shared a 2011 interview with the Television Academy, in which she reflected on the deeper meaning behind the sitcom.

While the series is best known for its hilarious moments, Lucie believes its message of “unconditional love” is what has allowed it to stand the test of time. “Good day to watch this excerpt,” she captioned the clip.

Originally airing from 1951 to 1957, I Love Lucy ran for six seasons and won four Emmy Awards. The sitcom followed Lucy Ricardo, played by Ball, as she got herself into one outrageous situation after another, often alongside her husband, Ricky Ricardo, played by Desi. From Lucy struggling to keep up with chocolates on a fast-moving conveyor belt to stomping grapes during a trip to Italy, the show delivered plenty of unforgettable laughs.

Desi died of lung cancer in 1986 at age 69, while Ball died of heart problems in 1989 at age 77. The pair shared two children but later divorced in 1960, after a 20-year marriage.

In an exclusive clip given to PEOPLE from Catchy Comedy Network earlier this year, Lucie talked about how the special relationship between her parents changed after their decision to part ways.

“Truth be told, after they were divorced, that came back in kind of a wonderful way,” she admitted. “They started to respect each other in a different way. A lot of the fear was gone. They had other lives with other people that, I don’t know that they ever loved them the same way they loved each other, but they were good for them.”
