An Illinois man who repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend in the neck and face in front of his mother and then called police to admit his crime is headed to prison for decades.

Anthony Jimenez, 28, was sentenced Friday to 55 years in prison for the stabbing death of 24-year-old Jessica Reyes, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Jimenez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April.

Cops responded shortly before 11 a.m. on July 17, 2024, to an apartment in the 1600 block of S. Michigan Avenue in Villa Park, a Chicago suburb, after Jimenez called 911 and said, "I stabbed my girlfriend in the neck."

Jimenez answered the door with blood on his hands and chest. Officers found Reyes bleeding on the floor in a back bedroom. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where she died.

Prosecutors said Jimenez and Reyes were arguing at his apartment about three hours before the murder.

He was blocking the door from the apartment, preventing an escape, so she climbed down from a third-story balcony and into the parking lot. They spoke to each other and calmed down before she went back inside to collect her things.

But the argument re-started and things once again became heated. The defendant pulled a knife from his pocket and plunged it into the side of her head.

"As Reyes fought back, Jimenez continued to stab her multiple times about her neck, face, arms, chest and hands and only stopped stabbing Reyes when his mother entered the room," prosecutors wrote.

Authorities arrested Jimenez at the scene and took him to the DuPage County Jail, where he has remained ever since.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin noted that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

"This tragic case is a stark reminder that domestic violence must never be tolerated or excused, as doing so could result in deadly consequences," Berlin said. "To Jessica's surviving family and friends, I offer my sincere condolences on their loss and wish them strength as they continue their lives with just the memories of Jessica to see them through. No relationship should end in violence and as a society, we must all stand together and do what we can to prevent tragedies such as we saw in this case, from ever happening again."

A GoFundMe described Reyes as the "most selfless, resilient, and goofiest human being."

"She accomplished amazing things in her 24 years of life. She served the military for six years and became a veteran not too long ago. No matter what, she was there for people who needed her," her family wrote.

Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner Cozy Up Inside Academy Museum Gala

Stefanie Keenan/Oscars/Getty Images for Academy Museum Foundation Tap Here To Add Us Magazine As A Trusted Source Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner have made their gala debut as a couple.

Elordi, 29, and Jenner, 30, attended the annual Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, October 17, twinning in black while walking the red carpet separately — just moments apart. The Dog Stars actor looked dapper in a custom Bottega Veneta tux with sunglasses, while Jenner opted for a bespoke polka dot Valentino gown.

After the pair posed for their respective photographs, they reunited inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, where they were spotted cozying up at a table.

The supermodel and Elordi, who have never publicly addressed their relationship, have been romantically linked since April 2025.

"They are very serious and exclusive," a source exclusively told Us months later in July. "Everyone around them can see how madly in love they are and how well their relationship works."

The insider further revealed that Elordi and Jenner bonded over common interests.

"They both share a love for the outdoors, so traveling together and escaping into nature has become one of their favorite ways to spend quality time," the source noted to Us . "Friends think Jacob brings out the best in Kendall, and she is really happy right now. Everyone approves of him, and it's going well so far."

Jenner's famous family have since given Elordi their stamp of approval. The 818 Tequila founder's half-brother Brody Jenner recently slammed rumors that their brood was concerned about the actor allegedly not contributing financially to the couple's vacations.

"I can confirm that this is clickbait," Brody, 43, wrote via Instagram comment in August, adding a thumbs-down emoji and denying the claims.

Before her romance with Elordi, Kendall had been candid about embracing a dating hiatus following her respective splits from exes Devin Booker and Bad Bunny .

"I'm actually in a, like, me era right now. When I turned 29, I remember saying to myself, I do feel like I've been in [relationships] and there's nothing wrong with it," she said on the "In Your Dreams" podcast in January. "I've had great relationships, I've had not-so-great relationships, but I felt like through my 20s, I was in a lot."

She continued at the time, "I was in a few long-term consistent relationships ... near each other. I never really had my 20s to myself. When I turned 29, I made a minor commitment to myself. I was, like, 'I'm not going to reject anything [and] I'm going to stay open to anything that feels like it would suit me,' but I really wanted to have a 'me year' where I chose myself."

How A24 Spurred A Meme Craze & Got The Many To Watch ‘You Can See Everything’: Documentary Opens To $15M Milestone

Less than two months ago, the public didn’t even know that a Nathan Fielder co-directed and starring documentary which followed controversial Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes even existed.

And here we are with A24 having cracked the code on Gen Z again with an awesome $15M opening; 2,000-plus sellouts, and lines around the block for the 3-hour You Can See Everything , this after their all-time grossing hit Backrooms ($400.6M WW).

In addition to being the second best opening for a documentary at the domestic box office behind 2004’s Fahrenheit 9/11 ($23.9M), the whole box office resonance of You Can See Everything brings to mind when niche HBO-born Sacha Baron Cohen spread his wings with Borat which opened to $26.4M. In fact, the debut here for You Can See Everything is the best for a movie in under 1,000 locations since 2006’s Borat. Yes, theatrical is becoming the alpha and streaming the basic cable in today’s world. But still, the needle to thread for theatrical success remains nuanced. There’s plenty of adult sophisticated fare at the fall box office that’s struggling. How to trapped lasers in a bootle and make originality king? A documentary which follows a deadpan wisenheimer who eloquently and hysterically grills an arguably vain, tech baron who swindled hundreds of millions of dollars, before her federal prison stint, is the way to go. But more so, the documentary is dressed up as a noir with a thrilling score, grey overcast tones and a third act that’s bananas fun, especially if you’ve been obsessed with Holmes and the fictional portrayals of her in the Hulu Emmy winning limited series The Dropout. Watch on Deadline

And that runtime of 3 hours proved to be no deterrent. The documentary has plenty of twists and turns in The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day sense of the word. There’s even advice out there as to when to take a bathroom break in the movie:

essential information if you’re seeing Nathan this weekend pic.twitter.com/Gi4IvUB0GP

A24 has long been hailed for their guerrilla marketing and ability to speak to the Gen Z crowd. That wasn’t lost this weekend with 70% under 25 showing up this weekend. The pic at 56% guys to 44% women was a date film with 44% watching You Can See Everything with a partner, spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend.

How do you do it, A24? Keep it cool, keep it simple, and never act like you’re overselling the demo. They can sniff if they’re being pressured. Then pray, pray they take ownership of it after the pure placement of materials on social. And that’s what we saw going on here with the You Can See Everything fans posting a plethora of memes reminiscence of Barbie ‘s run-up when moviegoers spurred the Barbenheimer online fandom.

Secrecy was the special sauce with You Can See Everything directed by Lance Oppenheim and Fielder sub rosa over the last four years. They had the freedom to pursue the project without a deadline or any obligation to deliver a finished film. A24 even made clear that if nothing came of it, the project could simply be scrapped. In the end what Fielder and Oppenheim delivered was an Empire Strikes Back -like sequel to Alex Gibney’s 2019 HBO doc The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley . Critical reviews are at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes with audiences at 98%. Screen Engine/Rentrak Postmark exits are an awesome 91% definite recommend which are scores that massive Marvel movies like Black Panther and Star Wars Force Awakens land. At 4.8, it’s the biggest Letterboxed score ever.

Who the hell drops a movie at Telluride in secrecy? A24, that’s who. The small town awards season kick-off fest typically has secret screenings that are playing at other festivals (i.e. last year’s Frankenstein which bowed at Venice and went on to play TIFF), however, to needle drop a world premiere sans any intel was a gong that rang around the world. A24 dropped the teaser just as the movie was hitting the screen in Colorado on Sept. 6. A trailer followed on Sept. 23 with Fielder opening it up by asking Holmes “You really feel you did nothing wrong?” to which she responds earnestly, “I did not.” A24 says it’s their second most viewed trailer ever dropped after Backrooms .

Holmes’ unhinged partner Billy Evans, who is a big part of the documentary and mans her social media, insisted that her Twitter handle be tagged by A24 in the trailer drop. LOL.

And then came the memes, so myriad, we can’t run them all; Kermit and Miss Piggy as Fielder and Holmes stealing the show:

Outdoor intrigued with Holmes’ buzzing eyes.

Can't miss it. You Can See Everything opens nationwide tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/waq2gKYdSX

Even more jaw dropping, A24 didn’t do any sports buys on You Can See Everything . That maneuver, no matter the movie, is always the power pill for many major studio tentpole campaigns . That said A24 did break their own marketing rules and took out sports spots on Backrooms which mushroomed to an $81.4M record opening for the NY based studio (the movie was originally forecasted at $30M+ in its pre-weekend forecast) back in late May.

We understand that You Can See Everything wasn’t a coastal play and exceeded in its big markets from Nashville, TN at the Belcourt which had lines around the block to the Scotiabank in Toronto. Top five cities were NYC, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and Seattle. The Kabuki theater in San Francisco was the documentary’s top gross, which stands to reason as tech heads flocked to the film.

A24 was keen to keep this release tight and limited this weekend, to get in the cultural ether and make tickets a prized fetch. For when You Can See Everything goes wider next weekend, look out DC’s Clayface because Holmes is coming for blood.

It’s clear with the success of You Can See Everything : Bust out the Holmes and Fielder Halloween costumes, stat.

Tiny chick doing the ghost trend is the cutest little boo baby yet

Tiny chick doing the ghost trend is the cutest little boo baby yetEve Vawter Sun, October 18, 2026 at 3:47 PM UTC

![](https://hermes.media.static.aol.com/media/2026/10/18/ba0378de-fc25-3214-9a45-7aceaa196877/94826b59-7d50-4727-b7d2-f6f2a81603ae.jpg)

I thought I was handling the Halloween ghost trend reasonably well. Dogs in little ghost sheets? Wonderful. Cats looking mildly offended by their spooky assignments? Excellent. Then somebody included a tiny chick, and now I’m emotionally attached to a haunted cotton ball.

This precious baby joins the trend with a miniature ghost look, becoming possibly the least intimidating Halloween visitor in history. There’s simply no way to be frightened of something you immediately want to protect from a light breeze. That’s a boo baby. I would like to appoint myself its honorary aunt.

The clip was shared by TikTok user @hemptana and features a tiny chick taking a turn at the Halloween ghost trend.

The idea is simple: people give their dogs or cats a ghost sheet costume and pair the video with Jack Stauber’s “Oh Klahoma.” The result is a parade of little pet ghosts that has made scrolling through Halloween videos extremely dangerous for my productivity.

But a chick? Nobody prepared me for a chick.

(Related: Corgi’s mom tried the popular ‘ghost’ trend and the result is comedy gold)

Dogs have enough size to suggest they might actually haunt a hallway. A cat could absolutely make you nervous in a dark room, especially if dinner was late. This baby looks like its entire haunting schedule would consist of one tiny appearance followed by a nap.

I’m imagining a haunted house employee introducing the newest member of the team. “This is our ghost. Please speak softly. It’s very little.”

I would buy a ticket immediately.

The ghost trend has found its tiniest little star

What makes this version so cute is the ridiculous difference between the assignment and the participant. We’re supposed to be getting spooky. Instead, we’ve got a baby chick that has somehow made Halloween even sweeter.

It’s the same reason I can never take a tiny dog’s big, serious bark seriously. The confidence is there. The scale is working against them. I respect the effort, but I’m still going to call them precious.

And this little chick deserves full credit for joining a trend usually filled with dogs and cats. There’s room in the ghost club for a feathered baby, especially one whose scare factor is approximately ZERO.

If you’re inspired to dress up your own pet, keep their comfort first and skip anything that obstructs breathing, vision or movement.

As for this baby, I’m declaring the haunting successful. It has occupied my thoughts, disrupted my workday and convinced me that “spooky little peep” is a perfectly reasonable term of affection.

Taylor Swift Fires Up Academy Gala With Four Songs in Her First Band Performance Since the Eras Tour

Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic

Taylor Swift got some of the old gang back together for her first full-band performance since the Eras Tour, delivering a four-song set to a black-tie audience Saturday night at the Academy Museum 6th Annual Gala.

Conan O’Brien introduced her by saying, “It’s an insane, unprecedented honor to introduce a cherished member of our little ‘Toy Story 5’ family. She’s John, Paul, George and Ringo all in one.” Related Stories 'Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging' Pilot Set at Netflix David Fincher Ending Netflix Deal After Six Years and Three Movies, Including 'Cliff Booth'

As an indicator of just how long she’s been off any kind of regular performance circuit, the gala-capping show included Swift’s first-ever live rendering of “The Fate of Ophelia,” the smash hit single she released just over a year ago, on Oct. 3, 2025. The song is expected to be a leading contender for record of the year and other categories at the 2027 Grammys, for which voters just received their first ballots. Popular on Variety

As expected, she also sang her contender for the 2027 Oscars, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” from the Pixar film “Toy Story 5.” It wasn’t her first live performance ever of that song — she did it at the Grammy Museum and at a private Ross House FYC showcase — but it was her first time singing it live with a full band, and not as part of a mash-up. Besides its Oscar eligibility, the song is also in contention at the Grammys, entered in the song of the year category as well as film soundtrack and country divisions.

For the remaining two slots in her set, Swift dug farther back into the past, covering both her cynical and romantic bases, opening with “Blank Space” and ending with “Love Story.”

Wearing a Ralph Lauren gown for her performance, Swift invited the formally clad gathering to dance along with her set, saying, “Dancing is absolutely allowed. It’s not mandatory, but it’s more fun.”

Her backing crew had some singers and players who would be familiar to Swifties, but also some differences in the lineup, which was stripped down in some regards and packed out in others, namely with a horn section. She was joined by two sax players — not a regular staple of her touring outfit — as well as four singers and a guitarist, bassist, keyboard player and drummer.

Among the regular band members participating was Paul Sidoti, who wrote on Instagram, “Great to be playing music with my onstage partner of 19 years for the first time since The Eras Tour at a little party last night in Hollywood.”

Swift posed for photos with attendees including “Toy Story 5” voice actors Joan Cusack and Conan O’Brian and celebs like Cara Delevingne, Sabrina Carpenter, Eli Roth, Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo, John Carpenter, Hannah Waddingham, Dakota and Elle Fanning.
